That's a toughie. I LOVE cats and I have a mom who is not so fond of them. It drove me crazy knowing I could never have a cat because she was scared of them. So I adopted one without her permission, which is not always recommended because I don't know how your parents will react. But get one, put him/her in your room and tell your parents that you've "adopted a cat and that you made a vow that it will always be with you". Use what might think will help you.
In my case, my mom didn't even get mad and she likes my cat alot. She even lets him sleep with her at night!

If you show them that you are responsible enough to have a cat and will take care of it, you might be able to talk them into it...plus if you tell them how much you love cats and how much company they would be to you...good luck

Tough isn't it? I've done this so many times. Okay this is what you say, "Pets can play an important role in life. Caring for an animal teaches you compassion and responsibility. Pets are stress relievers and make you feel happy!" that oughta get em'! Just tell them how you feel. Pets are awesome! They can make you laugh and smile! GOOD LUCK! Hope you get to have a pet!!! :)

Well, I think it's really simple. To me though. And these are ALL true.
-
1) Tell them you'll pay for the cat yourself only if you can though.
2) If you do get a chance to adopt a cat, then adopt them at animal shelters. They're much cheaper AND you'll save a life.
3) Tell them that you'll save a life at the animal shelter.
4) Tell them more than 4 million animals in the animal shelter in the US are being put to sleep.
5) If your parents say that you should get a dog instead, then tell them cats are more cheaper than dogs. Counting vet prices AND shelter prices.
6) In my opinion, cat toys are way more easier to get than dog toys. You know why? Because my cat only plays with toys that we don't have to buy. He plays with wires (NOT electrical wires! The ones that come in with the Barbie boxes, that hold them in it if you know what I mean) and just random strings and ribbons. He also plays with plastic bags.
7) Most cats don't need a lot of attention so you don't have to worry about them being lonely or scared of the dark since they see better in the dark and they are nocturnals.
8) Cats use something called LITTERBOXES. They don't need to go out to go to the bathroom. All you have to do is just pick the stuff from the litterbox and throw it out.
9) Cats are quieter than dogs
10) They're smaller animals, which means they won't knock every single thing down in the house.
11) Cats require less grooming than dogs.
12) You don't need to give cats showers AT ALL *OF COURSE UNLESS THEY ARE OUTDOOR CATS* since they groom themselves.
13) Even though cats are independent, they still want some attention from you and love to be in a house where they are cuddled and welcomed.
14) Cats are fairly non-agressive
15) They can live in smaller places like condos or apartments
16) They require less excercise than dogs.
17) Cats require less training than dogs.
18) If you adopt a cat from a shelter (WHICH IS WAY BETTER), then you can find one that is already litterbox trained.
19) Well my cat loves to chase bugs so he kills them for us. But then of course, we make sure his paws are clean before he jumps on our bed.
20) Whenever my mom is sad or my sister or me, then my cat would somehow know and then would sleep with us. It makes us feel better.
21) Tell them that it'll make you more responsible, which it will if you actually care about taking care of him/her.
22) If you're lonely, you can play with your cat.

I'm so happy you want to get a cat (if you do...)! Because they are really cute and extremely funny. My cat loves to play around and he's healthy and playful and we're lucky to get him since he's our first cat, and he's what I call a "beginner cat" since when we adopted him, he was young and he didn't have any problems with him, and was litterbox trained and loved doing alot of stuff and is very playful and active.
Before I didn't really care about cats; well yeah, they're cute before, but now that I got a cat, I think I'm way more responsible and less lazy, since I have to force myself to clean up his mess and clean up his litterbox but it's really fun when you're done.
I would really hate it REALLY hate it if we had to give my cat away.
But when you get a cat, make sure you really want it because I've heard that if you give a cat away back to the shelter, you have to pay $300 and if the cat is sick, you have to pay for the vet prices. This was not to dissuade you, but I was just warning you.
And I know you'll have a great time with your kitty/cat!

How about if you talk them into letting you adopt a cat rather than purchase one ?? Check out your local shelter for more details.

You can show them that you are responsible for an animals life, first of all. Show them you know what you are doing, and show them you have enough responsibility. For example: take on more chores than you already have. I don't know. That's my guess.
