All my babies got their 1st pillow at the 12 month stage , i know cot death is a real worry but i`m sure at 12 months you are passed the risky area , at 12 months your little boy will be able to move around freely to find where he`s comfy . If ur really concerned why not try and put the pillow under his sheet so it is secure but his head and neck will still be supported ...

My children all used pillows before a year old as they slept in my bed untill they were done nursing. Once a child can roll around in their sleep they have pretty good control of their body, they have little chance of crib death. It is also common for people to move their now toddlers into toddler beds. I would let him have one now. If you prett concerned at first try to find a thin pillow and a zip on pillow case.

Actually, both children and adults do not actually 'need' pillows, in fact the body gets better support without them.
But you shouldn't give a child a pillow until 12 months.

my little girl has been using a pillow now for nearly 2 weeks, she is nearly 16 months old. id always presumed that a child could use a pillow from the age of 12 months

Hi
I too agonised over when was right all the books say anyything over the age of 1 is fine. my daughter has had one since this age. Cot death is something we all worry about i personally feel safer with her laying on a pillow than a blanket which she could get tangled up in.

My son got a pillow when he moved to a bed. He was about 14 months. Is your son highly mobile. If he is, then I would say he can use a pillow, the concern is suffocation, if he can move and toss and turn at night, I would say go for it. But get a little one.

My son has had a pillow since about a year. He wont sleep without one now! He should be fine. By the time they hit a year their bodys know if they can or cant breathe and they will turn over in their sleep.

you could probably try him with a low pillow, my daughter is 10 months and i worry about the same thing but she puts her head on a teddy or screws a blanket up - as long as he is able to move the pillow it shouldn't be a problem....

A small pillow would be ok for a 12 month old. I wouldn't put anything to big in there that he might try to climb on. Just so he wouldn't climb up on it and fall out of the crib.
