Difficulty: Average
Time Required: 30 minutes - 1 hour, depending on length & thickness of hair
Here's How:
Spray freshly washed roots with volumizing spray. I like Bumble & Bumble or you can try Aveda volumizing tonic .
If hair is naturally course or curly, work a straightening balm through hair. Here's a great list of balms .
Blow dry hair straight, starting at the roots to get extra volume. Hair must be completely dry for this look to work. Blow cold air at the roots to add volume (cold air locks in a style)
Separate hair into 3 sections, securing with a ponytail holder. (It's easier this way to curl your way through each section).
To curl hair, use a 1-inch barrel curling iron. Starting with one section, take a 1-inch portion of hair and wrap hair around the barrel of the curling iron. (Wrapping hair is different from the traditional curling method. You don't want to 'clip' hair into the barrel. Wrapping allows you to curl all the way to the root). When you're curling, make sure to leave ends loose.
Release the curl after about 5-10 seconds (hold longer if you want a tighter curl). You should have a corkscrew curl.
Roll & pin curl to your scalp.
Alternate the direction of the curl as you work your way through the section. (Wrap hair under once, then over the next time). Alternating directions makes curls look more natural.
Once pinned curls have cooled, release them.
Remove nozzle from dryer & gently loosen waves with cool air. You can also separate curls with your fingers, just make sure not to brush them out.
To add shine, spritz a hair serum . Or forego hair serum & spritz with saltwater spray. I like John Frieda Beach Blonde Ocean Waves Sea spray.
Set with a spritz of hairspray. Just don't overdue it, you don't want to new waves to be 'crunchy.'
What You Need:
Volumizing spray
Straightening balm (if you have thick, course hair)
Hair dryer
A 1-inch barrel curling iron
Ponytail holder & bobby pins
Shine serum
Hairspray
Saltwater spray

First you need to make sure your hair is healthy enough. If you have store (at home color) on your hair the perm will not form a nice curl, you will end up w/ wave, straight and frizz.
If your hair is healthy you will want to get your hair rolled spiral pattern on purple rods. It will give you nice large springy curls. If you have it a straight back wrap it will not be curly, it will be s shaped curls.
These are very beautiful curls.
Good Luck,
Stylist of 9 yrs.

I actually bought this stuff that was for straightening, but found it works really well to create curls. It's called Got2B Crazy Sleek. It comes in an orange triangular bottle with a hot pink cap. I use it every day to create soft natural curls, I get compliments. It looks like this:http://www.walgreens.com/store/product.jsp?CATID=100652&id=prod1679001
Just squirt some into your hands and scrunch it through damp towel dried hair, twist it and create curls. Then put it up in a twisted bun and let it dry. This is my hair regimine every day :)
Good luck!!!

when you take a shower get out, brush your hair and literally "scrunch" your hair with your hands starting at the bottom. it will dry naturally curly, and if you wish you can use mousse or styling gel to help it hold. But if you do it just as you get out of the shower with no additives, it will dry natural and look more natural also.

You take a curling iron and curl your hair. For a more naturl look, curl chunks of your hair and kind of comb it so the curls are blended.

use a curling iron, spray lightly w/hair spray then tease them with your fingers so they're not hard/sticky feeling..after your done shake your head so they don't look clumped. Or you could try curling rods when your hair is dry then hair spray them and then tease them...
