If your pup is only 8 weeks old, do not give him any medication (or the flea dipping) until he's seen by a vet. The dosage for wormers and flea-rid medications is based on the age of the dog and the weight of the dog.

Waiting until the vet open again won't hurt the pup, but medicating it without knowing what you're doing may do damage. When you go to the vet make sure you take a sample of the pup's poop with you so the vet can check to see what KIND of worms (or other parasites) you're dealing with.

And congrats on rescuing the pup!

It was not a good idea to use a flea dip on a 8 week old puppy. You should've used mite/lice spray for birds (it's safe for young puppies). Keep an eye on your pup to make sure that it doesn't get sick from the dip. Wait till Monday for the de-wormer because you don't know what kind of worms it has and they'll be able to tell what kind of worms they are and give it the appropriate de-wormer. Good luck with the pup. Make sure you get it spayed/neutered when it's old enough!

Do NOT use flea dips on a puppy!!! They are extremely dangerous and could kill them especially puppies as young as 8 weeks. Do NOT use any OTC flea products..collars, dips, shampoos, topicals...they have a high concentration of pesticides taht are very unsafe. They can cause seizures, neurological problems and death. Use only flea products from a vet especially on young puppies.
As for deworming wait and get the appropriate dewormer from your vet. Do NOT use any OTC dewormers either. They are worthless and like the flea products they are dangerous. Also it is nOT a good idea to deworm without knowing exactly waht type(s) of worms you are dealing with. Also it is not a good idea to deworm until you know for sure the puppy is healthy enough to be dewormed.

go to a pet supply house and get "erliworm" and give to your puppy. in the mean time, just feed a good quality food (make sure the first ingredient is meat and not ground yellow corn) and watch for any bloody discharge. Make sure plenty of water is available. she should be fine until you can get to the vet. Make sure you make a list of all the things you have treated her with, how much, and when (including flea dip, etc) so that the vet will not over dose her. Just write them out on a piece of paper you can hand to the vet.
Good luck and have fun with your new baby!!

Most all puppies have worms and yes you can wait until Monday. Keep the puppy to a confined space (box) and wash your hands well after handling. People rarely get worms associated with animals.

being 8 wks. I would wait until Monday. He needs to be weighed.also, at the vet, they do a fecal, and they're able to tell what kind of worms to treat for. I would not trust anything bought over-the-counter in a store. You could go to Petsmart or Petco and ask them...but only ask those who are knowledgeable

Maybe take her to the local animal shelter, they may be able to deworm her for you, I don't think the store brought wormers work to well, they usually don't treat all the worms. If not wait until you can see a vet.

Call your local "emergency" vet number and they will tell you what to do. At this point, it should be fine for another day. As long as the puppy is still eating and drinking with a playful demeanor, you should be fine. Don't treat it yourself!

Wait till Monday on the worm medication because he is so young, you might overdose him. He's a lucky pup.

Are you sure of his age? Some flea stuff causes nausea & other symptoms. I'd wait! Maybe call the ASCPA, or a volunteer pet shelter in your area for advice.
