people are canonized only after they have died.
as far as I know you have to preform at least one miracle in life and have at least one miracle done after death. that is if some one prated to have that miracle done in that persons name.

Do you mean, "What does it take to be canonized by the Roman Catholic Church?" If so, I'd suggest using Google to find "Canonization rules," or some similar search words. If you mean "saints" in the way the Apostle Paul used it, (referring to all Christian believers) I'd say go read the Book of James. It's near the back of your Bible. James is very clear on what is needed to live out the Christian life. Take a look through the Pauline epistles, too, if you're really curious. (That's Romans, both Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, both Thessalonians, both Timothy's, Titus, Philemon, and possibly Hebrews. They're not quite sure who wrote that one.)
My opinion on the matter doesn't make one iota's worth of difference to the eternal reality, so go check it out for yourself.

giving up your life (materialism, pleasure, etc.) inorder to fully submit to God's will, such as helping others in need (feeding the poor, going to shelters, helping in community service,etc.) and praying alot.
