Sometimes you really can taste the difference. So the name brand is better tasting...but I am like you,. more for the dollar, espically if it DOES taste the same!

Some generic brands are actually made by name brand companies but others are not. Some generic brands taste as good as the name brand, others leave a lot to be desired. You should do a taste test to see if your children are correct or not.
If you find both taste the same, you can try putting the product into containers such as Tupper wear and they won't know the difference. You can also have a little fun with them and let them do blind taste tests.

I don't think there is alot of difference. I have found that in some instances youre better off buying name brand when you compare the labels. ALot of generic foods take out key ingriedeints and add fillers. ALso, sometimes higher in salt and sugar. There can also be a significant difference in taste, for example, I only buy name brand soups like campells, (or make homemade) the generic canned soups are really blah and nasty. You just have to weigh it out and see if youre really saving money by buying foods no one is going to eat.

I think it varies by product. Some of the generics are so similar to the name brand that you just can't tell the difference. Other items just aren't as good. It's a matter of trying the generic, and if you're satisfied, then keep buying and save your dollars. Your kids, like most, are just being programmed by advertisers. You can try to fool them by repackaging in the old name brand box!! LOL.

well on somethings they are different. literine used to have a little red line of text that said listerine is not sold under any generic brand. so unless it says that your just buying the package. but for me i buy one generic and try it. if it tastes as good as the original then i never buy the orinigal again. why pay more for a better package.

I purchase the brand name, keep the box and the cereal - - mix
it with the generic on a ratio, until only the generic is used and
nobody knows the difference. (of course I go to the market myself).
The only time I again purchase the brand name is when I need
a new outer box.
try it works for us.

It is mostly the packaging. But some name brands are just plain better than the off brands. My specific example is macaroni and cheese. Though Kraft isn't the best stuff on earth, it's 100x better than any rip off of it. I'm not quite sure why that is, but I swear it's not just me being biased. I'll eat most off brand things fine, but some are just nasty.

the price...
granted some generic products are not great but just good usually they're good enough, 'cause the companies that do this products are subsidiaries of larger brands. So you pay more for the brand one 'cause they spend a lot of cash on advertisement...

Actually ..... They're BOTH governed buy the same NUTRITIONAL standards .... SO .... One (the cheaper) will be just as nutritious as the name brand but may lack spices, thus not as tastey.
Personally; I buy the generic brands & add my own spices. I still end up saving a bundle.

The name brand food has a better taste to it than the generic foods, they don't add the same stuff to the generic foods, they add more tastefull stuff to the name brand.
