If you mean having 2 antivirus programs running at the same time the yes, there is a difference. You should only use one AV and one firewall at the same time. Any more will conflict with each other and cause problems.

One time I installed Symantec and McAfee because I thought that two was better than one. However, I started to have problems, and I asked someone at CompUSA about it. I was told that the two companies made incompatible software, and that the two programs saw each other as a virus and worked to negate each other, leaving my computer unprotected from real problems.

Two will slow down your system and be in conflict with each other. One is good enough for your protection and better for smoother running of your system. Just pick the one that offers you more and comes with free updates to it's anti virus library.

you are in danger of them going into conflict with each other as they mite see each other as an attack on your computer. My recomendation is to have just 1 good, reliable system. My preference is Norton but others will shoot me down with their preferences.Do your homework first and look at virus protection blogs or forums on the net and make your own mind up....but stick to just 1.
