It is perceived to be so because of all the very bad publicity all of it true. Bad things always make the news ,you have too look hard to find good things. That does not mean that it is true for everyone like my neighbors they are wonderful people.

Unfortunately, people tend to be negative and aggressive towards things they do not understand. Religion is one of those things.
Unfortunately, many people do not know much about Islam. After 911, Islam became a "big threat" to many people because of what they heard on the media and all the negative propaganda associated with it and instead of learning more about it, people just believed and parroted what they have been fed from the media.
Unfortunately, there are also many websites that provide misleading information on Islam and the prophet Mohamed. For someone who does not understand this religion, these websites can be very dangerous because of the false information they are presenting. That is why it is very important to validate anything we read from reliable sources.
There are also many negative and aggressive Q & A concerning other religions and the samer concept applies. We fear what we do not know.

Your right they are all negative and bad. Why do you think there is war? But knowing that they are mean and cruel and violent why would you come over here and blow up a building?
What did you think they would do?
Wasn't that a little foolish? Would you go to the meanest guy on the block and kick him in the skin? Can you see that Okay you killed what 3000 in the world trade center and another 3000. in the war in Iraq. So dance in the street and celebrate.
But you have lost 400,000 I can't believe it is worth it.
Even if most were women.

I don't think the truth is all that vague. Radical, extremist hatred of those who call themselves Muslim are not a true representation of the Islamic faith. I don't suppose you would concede that hypocrisy is really saying one thing and doing another, would you? Perhaps you'll think about it for a minute. Islam is, for the most part, a peaceful religion and the religious beliefs of true Islam has its foundation in the same origins as Christianity. We part ways in the means of salvation. It's the basis for discussion, not mass murder.

Islam is a worldly religion which can be embraced by the world. Christianity is a heavenly religion, which is always under attack because it's not from this world.

There are people who revel in insulting Muslims and Islam. How can you correct them, when they need to do that for their pleasure? And this kind of people don't care about facts and clues. Ignorance and bigotry are their common characteristics.

When one is talking about something that has negative aspects it is entirely expected that comments will contain negative content. It is merely descriptive.
The word you used is spelled "ignorant". You have demonstrated the concept even if you are not able to spell it.

Personally I'd rather someone call me names and insult my religion then strap a bomb to themselves and try to murder my family at the market.
That's just me though.
