Yes...where did this thought process come from?
Hmmm...the world is full of sin. Wait! I know! I'll kill my own son, that will make it all better!
Sounds like a psychopath to me!

I read this in a Christian Fundamentalist site once.
Jesus died on the cross to pay for our sins in the same way that someone bails you out of jail or pays off a hefty debt you've run up.
As a result you have entered a contract in which you owe him your soul. This is because by dying on the cross he has saved it from The Devil.
However, the contract requires you to dedicate your life to Jesus and his teachings in order for Jesus to send your soul to heaven. Committing sin would be in breach of that contract and would therefore guarantee a one way ticket to eternal damnation. That is unless you repent.
The problem I have with this analogy is that if I did indeed enter such a contract with God and Jesus, why is it that I don't remember? Nor does anyone else for that matter. If God really created us in the way The Bible stated, why did he not keep our memories of this agreement intact? That would mean the whole of Humanity is a faulty product, which ultimately makes God a very dodgy creator.
Another flaw in this theory is that it defeats the whole concept of free will.
One last thing. If Jesus died on the cross for our sins, doesn't that also include the original sin brought down on us by Adam and Eve? Surely that would cancel any need for childhood baptism.

I'm not a Christian, but I'm not an athiest. I prefer to be an agnostic simply because I've seen no concrete evidence for either arguement. But let's assume there is a God for the sake of this question.
God didn't kill Jesus, the Romans did. Like anything bad that happens in our lives, it's not a case of God "letting it happen". He gave us free will as a gift to do with as we like, it is up to us whether we do good or bad, and if God just stopped everyone from doing bad things then it wouldn't be free will.
Jesus could have led a different life if he wanted to. He could have just followed his "adopted" father (i.e. Joseph) and worked as a carpenter, and if he kept his nose clean and stayed out of religion and politics he could have lived on to old age like most other people, but he chose not to, and that's the whole point, he CHOSE the life he lived and accepted his execution for the greater good.
Also, the Romans didn't have to crucify Jesus. If they were more tolerant they could have let him live, that was there choice also. God didn't make them do it.

There is only one thing that I know for sure, the bible was written by men. Everything else is pure speculation and a lot of superstition.
