I don't want to sound too critical of Locks of Love, but these are the facts:
Locks of Love only makes wigs for kids with long term or permanent hair loss from diseases like Alopecia. They do not make wigs for kids with Cancer, because Cancer is not considered a "long term" or "permanent" hair loss. Locks of Love already has over 10,000 ponytails sitting in a warehouse in Florida, and they are receiving about 200 new ponytails everyday. But, they only make about 100 wigs per year, and they have even charged the families of the kids (based on their ability to pay) for the wigs they have made. Locks of Love sells a lot of the hair they receive (and paid nothing for) to companies like Clairol for perm and color testing. The majority of the hair they receive will get used for testing, and then get thrown away. Or, it will just sit in their warehouse with the 10,000 ponytails they already have.
Locks of Love does not meet the Better Business Bureau's standards for Charity Accountability. Click on the link below, to see what the BBB has to say about Locks of Love. Also, when you look at the Better Business Bureau report, be sure to look at the break down of Locks of Love's $375,000 gross profit. Over $150,000 came from "hair sales". Here's the BBB link: http://www.give.org/reports/care2_dyn.asp?733

To be eligible to receive a hairpiece, a child must:
-Be under 18 years of age.
-Have long-term hair loss from alopecia areata (an autoimmune disease), scalp burns, or a similar medical condition. Children whose hair loss is due to chemotherapy may be excluded from consideration, as their condition is considered temporary.
-Provide proof of financial need.
-Submit two letters of recommendation, a photo, and an essay.
Locks of Love does not provide all hairpieces free of charge. According to its website, prices for human-hair wigs are set on a sliding scale based on the recipient's family income.

I hope not because I was wanting to do that someday as well. Maybe doing more research or ask for a copy of any paperwork that states that it goes to cancer patients will help.

I work at a saon that donates alot of hair to Locks Of Love.
Sometimes they do sell the hair for swimwear, hair tracks, etc. The only time they sell this hair is when it is damaged or not long enough (10 in. is the shortest they will take) But, the money they make goes towards the making of the wigs.
Not only is Locks Of Love for childern w/ canser, but also kids who have skin or hair disorders.
There are alot of salons who will do your haircut free for donating it.
Good Luck,
Stylist of 9 yrs.

trust me! Your hair seems so a lot more beneficial positive now! earlier it change into kinda there, yet no longer quite doing something for u. Now, because it really is shorter and thicker, it frames your face SO nicely! That change into an spectacular decision!

well maybe they sell the extra hair they get (cuz its a really "wide" program) to hair places for people to get extensions but my sister in law is a beautician and she gets a lot of people who cuts 12 or more inches off to give to locks of love, so im guessing its a pretty good thing. i would love to do it if my hair was longer
