What happened to our 5 month old kitten? Dr had her 5 days tried several different antibiotics, including flagyl, penicillin, cleocin and sub-q fluids as well as iv fluids. They could never get the diarrhea under control. Incision from spay surgery was well approximately and healing well from the external side. Was it the rabbit? I have several other kittens and don't want this to happen again. I have 5 other cats/kittens spayed/neutered at the same time and they seem to be fine. The diarrhea was severe - looked like urine with small flecks of feces. Maybe someone else has come across this. We do live in the country. Thanxs for your responses

It sounds like all possible remedies were tried. She may have gotten something from the rabbit she ate. It would seem the most likely senario.

I don't know anything about diseases that rabbits could transmit to a cat through ingesting their meat. I will be looking for more knowledgeable answers here.

I'm sorry you had to lose this kitten. I would be inclined to keep youngsters like that confined to the house until their surgeries had been performed.

Rabbits can carry a lot of diseases and parasites that are not good for cats. I would say that your kitten contracted something from eating the rabbit. From what you describe I would not consider it related to the spaying.
In order to keep your cats safe and prevent this from happening again you really should keep them inside.

The ASPCA has a web page with a question & answer section; try them. It wasn't the plague? To me (no expert). Feces in the urine, maybe a sugically cut bowl? That's what I'm wondering. call another vet & ask if this could happen during surgery.

the rabbit could have eaten rat poison or the cat could eaten a rat that got into rat poison. the rabbit could have eaten a rat that got into rat poison and then was eaten by the cat. it could be a number of things. you may never know. don't beat yourself up about it. good luck with the rest of your kitties.

I wonder if your cat was obstructed. Did your vet take x-rays or do a barium series of x-rays?
