The words in the bible are subject to the biases and errors of the men who wrote them. Men wrote down the stories in the bible based on oral stories that had been passed around for ages. Or they wrote first hand accounts of what they saw and heard, like in the new testament. All of these words, subject to bias and error have also been translated and changed over the years to suit modern language. You shouldn't read the bible to attempt to identify lies/truth. Its meant to be a guide to help you form your own beliefs and live the best life you can.

Considering that the bible in it's present form was put together by a group of fallible human beings who sat and picked and chose what was to be included how is there any way of knowing how much if any truth it contains.

No everything not in the bible is not a lie. There is plenty of truth and facts around us.

If you are asking this,if that every thing that is taught in church, then yes if it is not in the bible then it is a lie. Now is every thing in the bible true, you bet you sweet potato pie it is. Just as it says in the HOLY BIBLE,, LET GOD BE TRUE AND EVERY MAN A LIAR. I hope this is what you were asking.
