It would have been more polite, I think, to simply say, "No thanks" and not take one. Or, if you did take one, you could've donated it to a thrift store or homeless shelter where it might have been appreciated.

Not being religious is no reason to throw away someone else's religious book. That is always, always considered bad etiquette. No matter what kind of religious text it is, a gracious person either politely says "no, thank you" or accepts it and finds a way to deal with it later in a way that is not offensive.

You should have politely declined the Bible. So what if they try to "thump" you with it. There are people out there who would have enjoyed a copy of it.
I'm Agnostic and I have no problem with declining a good thumping but I also understand that the Bible does encourage Christians to spread the word of Christ. This is their way of doing so. I don't have to be rude to them for doing something that they're convinced is bringing them closer to their god.

What was the matter with saying "No thank you" and giving it to a church (for CCD), a homeless ctr or anyother organization that would accept it. You know you did something wrong that is why you are on here. That was not the right thing to do and I see another agnostic on here that agrees with the way you handled it bad.

The most appropriate response would have been, "No, thank you.", followed by not taking one from them. Why did you take one, and then throw it out? Were you just trying to cause problems? Sounds like you were, and it also sounds like you knew you were wrong.

What you did was wrong, because it's a waste and our landfills don't need more garbage. What you should have done is accept the bible, and say, "Thanks, just what I needed...more toilet paper!" It may be a little rough, but at least then you'd be putting it to good use.

Maybe in addition to a lesson in manners, you might want to look into why you have a problem just saying "no."

you should have said no thank you, so they could have gave that bible to someone that did want it. was you to ashamed to tell then that you did not want it. you should have read it you would not thank the way you do now if you had.

Yes, you should have told them that you weren't interested and let them keep the bible.
