If he's ready for potty training you could start a calendar. he gets to stick a sticker on the days that he went on the potty. You need to be patient with him and not eexpect him to do this in the beginning, it may take a few weeks. Most important is to be persistent. Ask him every morning if he needs to go and throughout the day to go. I wouldn't make him unless he has done it a few times already. He'll let you know when he's ready. Some people cheerios in the potty. I've heard of people putting a candy jar on the tiolet and they can only get a treat when they go. Some people use food coloring in the potty. We didn't use any of those with my son, he just sits on the potty, but those are some ideas. Good luck...

Cut out colorful tissue paper shapes sprinkle a few in the toilet and tell him to sink them...
Get a box with small items he is only allowed to play with while on the toilet.. I used colorful buttons and a shoelace so my kits could string the buttons while they sat...
When he does use the toilet (even if it's a fluke) praise the behavior do a dance, call the grandparents and let your child tell them his accomplishment, make it a big deal and be sure to tell him what a big boy he is... When he has an accident clean it up but don't make a big deal about it...
He will quickly get the concept and potty training will be done... Once he is going in the toilet well watch the clock every hour or 2 have him take a potty break to avoid accidents...
Use regular cloth underpants while training they give a wet uncomfortable feeling your child will quickly want to avoid having...

This site is wonderful

The guide cost $12 and it works in 3 days or your money back. For me it was worth every penny, my daughter was very stubborn and I had tried everything, I used this guide and it took her only 2 days.
As long as you follow all the rules, and do it exactly the way you are supposed to it will work.
If you decide not to spend the money on this guide, just make sure to not use pull-ups while trying to potty train, not even at night. This is very important because if it looks and feels like a diaper then your child will use it like a diaper.
I learned this the hard way. Also, pull-ups and other training pants are made by diaper companies, the last thing they want is your child to be potty trained quickly, look at all the money they will lose! They simply do not work.
So while potty training put them in underwear (not padded underwear) day and night. And follow the guide and you will have success!

i just did this with my daughter about a month ago, i got a potty doll at toys are us, .i used the doll to show her how to go, then when she did we gav the doll some candy. Of course it went to my daughter, anyways, then i had my daughter "train" the baby. I poured some water on the doll to make it look like she had an accident, then had my daughter take her potty again. As i was doing this I explained how she was a big girl and this is what she had to do. The dolly has a potty also, so when she was taking the dolly potty, my daughter was getting on my potty also.
also from tht day forward i but her in panties, it didnt matter if we were driving long distances or were going to the store. she learned really fast that peeing on herself wasnt confortable. It took about 2 days for her to get the complete hang of it, and of course there are accidents every now and then.
At night she still gets a pull up, but thats it, no other time does she get a pull up.
let him pick out his one underware, that way he gets excited, and wont want to pee on blue or thomas the tank or whatever

Before starting the training with a child be sure to make time to notice what time of day their dirty diapers happen. Having an idea what time of day the child will have a bowel movement will help tremendously with potty training.
The best video and book I have found to help with training and is "Once Upon a Potty." The kids enjoy it — we are just starting my son right now, and he just loves this movie. He now tells me when he needs to go "pee pee" and/or "poo poo." He sits on his potty while watching the movie and sings along. It is great.
Try to keep the child on a regular schedule as far as eating and sleeping.

Start with letting him actually see himself pee by letting him run around naked in your back yard. Kids have no idea what they're doing when they just feel that warm sensation in their diaper. When he goes, give him a lot of 'you're going potty, good job!" Tell him to go potty in the toilet, and give him a little jelly belly every time he goes. Same with poop, but some kids, like my son, took forever because it freaked him out for some reason. The candy and my persistence paid off. He was trained by 29 months.
Also, they really have to be physically ready, as in when they pee, they pee it ALL out, not just some which is what babies do.

I am not sure if this works or not, but I heard that some parents have had good success. Place in front of his potty chair or toilet, about 4 to 5 or so feet above the floor, a shelf that holds several toys that he really likes and wants (small colorful cars or trucks work really well). Every time he does well and has success, give him one of the toys. If he does not do well, he does not receive a toy. (As he is sitting, he can look up and see what he will get if he does good)

My son will be 4 in January and he just started pp in the potty last week. I made a chart with for him and bought some stickers. He had wanted a ball bat. I bought the bat but told him he couldn't have it until he filled his chart up with stickers. Everytime he pp'd he got one sticker, if he poo'd in the potty he got two stickers. Also, he pp'd in the potty and I did a "pee pee dance" I was singing and dancing and he thought that was the funniest thing. He kept wanting to do the "pee pee dance". I told him he had to pee pee in the potty first. 10 minutes later he wanted to try again. He pee'd in the potty again. I think the dance worked better than the stickers. Good luck!!

Have him go naked around the house/yard. Have the potty chair right there in the room or in the yard. Give him lots to drink. Devote yourself to watching him and getting him on the potty when peepee starts to come out. Reward him with M&Ms. If he's ready this will work.

Put some blue food coloring in the toilet water. Have mommy or daddy go potty and show him how your pee can turn the water green! He may want to turn the water green as well! GOOD LUCK!
