Define date. With a group of other people your age at a skating rink, fine. What is the rush? As you get older, you gain much needed experience to deal with unexpected situations that can arise when dating -- there is no need to rush into it. Have fun with a group of people your age before having to deal with all the ups and downs associated with dating. You have the rest of your life to do that.

Romeo and Juliette were young, but their culture and the expectations of their culture were different than ours.

#1 Guys want sex! You should wait untill you are sixteen before you go out with a guy by yourself. I remember that all that I could think of was sex. I never forced myself on anyone, but I was always trying to score. I also know that everyone your age is curious about the bodies of the opposite sex and a lot of petting goes on, things can get out of hand. Don't ever assume that the guy you are dating won't try to force you to have sex. It is estimated that 50% of women are raped at some point in their lives, most are date rapes. I don't want to scare you, but just be cautious. I have had to help several girls deal with being raped. They always say that "he was such a nice guy, but he just wouldn't stop". Don't drink alcohal on a date, if you are drunk you have less ability to fight off unwanted advances.***As for being shy, get over it. Being shy will get you nothing. Set goals for yourself and work to accoplish them. It doesn't hurt to speak up, it will help you get noticed, say what you want to so that no one will have to guess what you think about a subject. Good luck.

most definitly. I started when i was 14, and things just went downhill from there. i became overly attached, didn't really know what i was getting into, and the whole thing just ended in a huge mess this last april. personally, i suggest that you do not date until you are at least 15. rather, go out with friends, form friendships with guys; don't feel that you have to be in a relationship to be accepted or to feel secure.

If your parents are OK with it, then 14 is fine to date.
