my 13yr old daughter and I are in a debate over when to reapply straight perms. I say it should be every 4-6 weeks for touch ups and every 3-6 months for full perms she says it should be every 4-6 months for touch ups.

Which one is correct?

For relaxers touch ups are every 4-6 wks. like you stated, or after 1 inch. of new growth. And a relaxer is permanent so if you have already relaxed hair you just touch-up new growth. You never apply a full relaxer unless you have relaxer free/virgin hair.

*That is important to remember, just touch-up NEW GROWTH, nothing else.

I just started a new yahoo group called Mahogany Beauty. We offer our members hair tips, answer questions, and we have a style gallery that showcases some of the hottest styles Black women are wearing today.

It really depends on her hair.

If her hair can be straightened without too much difficulty you can do it as you please. (Not too close together though!)

If she has very coarse hair, you would probably do every 4 - 6 weeks depending on how healthy her diet is (that affects how quickly her hair grows).

There is NO SUCH THING as a full perm. You don't want to do that, you just touch it up, a little overlapping is fine. But you don't want to do it as if it were the first time.

If you two have any other questions, I say find a beautician in your city. Most of this info should be on the instructions though.

You can also go to the company's website, I'm sure.

i'm getting a relaxer placed on my hair each 3 months. the 1st time you bypass they'll do the whole length of your hair. whenever you bypass after which you in easy terms want the regrowth comfortable (your roots), the relaxer (or srtaight perm as you call it) is everlasting, so they shouldn't could do any further than the regrowth. sturdy success!!
