Cos the crust is more 'baked' than the centre. The centre is soft & easy to consume. The crust has this distinct burnt taste in some cases. But Hovis have just released this bread where the crusts are totally cut off. So it makes it easy rather than doing it yourself.

I don't think kids are born hating crusts. Some parents believe that kids hate crusts and so unconciously put that idea in the kids' heads. I eat crusts and my kids have no problem with them. So to answer your question, some "kids hate crusts" because their parents teach them to hate crusts.

I had to force myself not to cut the crust off my kids sandwiches and pizza, etc. when they were very young (1 yr.) Most parents think that their kids can't eat those at such a young age. They can. When they learn not to eat the crust, they don't eat it. It's just like vegetables. Some things you might try are, 1. Provide a dipping sauce. Just like pizza hut. 2. Sprinkle it with Cinnamon and sugar. 3. Don't cut it off.
Good luck.

When I was a kid, I loved them - in fact I ate all my mates hehe.
I think it is probably the fact that they are harder and more chewy, combined with the fact that they are a different colour that makes kids not like them. Peer pressure could also factor in, they might decided they hate crusts as alot of their mates do. I also wonder if the fact that many adults ask if they like crusts or not reinforces the fact that they aren't nice.

Don't mind them myself but my 2 kids will leave imaginary crusts on bread rolls and even that bread with the invisible crust. milk loaf works well though as crust is soft

Because unless it's homemade, the crusts seem to be the most tasteless/worst tasting part.

Its the most filling part of the bread and maybe they find it easier to leave the crusts than half of the sandwich, they will never get curly hair.......
