I leave in a couple days (Sept. 25th) for Lackland for basic training and I'm a little worried. I am 18 years old, 6' 2", and 150 lbs [tall and skinny] and I can run my 1.5 mile in 13:10. I can do 52 crunches in 2 minutes. The thing I am worried about is that I am only able to do about thirty push-ups in 2 minutes. I work on them every day and I can only improve by one or two every week. Do you think over the 6 weeks I'm there, I'll be able to improve by 15 or 20 more and pass at the end? Also, if you have any advice, and I mean any, could you pass it along? I'm not nervous, I'm actually excited, but I just want to really go in prepared. Thanks alot!

Listen, do what you're asked, leave your ego at home, and you'll do fine. You may even make lifelong friendships.
Good luck,

I went with the help of the 6 and a 1/2 week BMT the Air stress presented a lengthy time period back. in view that very last november they switched to an 8 and a 1/2 week training application. the most proper ingredient you could do is to maintain engaged on it. I did 3 to 5 contraptions of 20 push united statesand 50 sit down united statesearlier i left. in case you won't be able to attain the criteria through the time you get there do not hardship about it. The TI's as BMT are more beneficial than satisfied to paintings you into structure. I favor you the finest of success and somewhat suggestion. attempt to dodge starting to be a attractiveness and merely sticking to being a form. Be basic and quiet and the TI ought to ignore you for the overall public of educating. also, deliver bathe shoes or you're showering in tennis shoes and get used to eating an excellent variety of water. initiate taking a water bottle round with you presently. you're required to consistently drink so that you do not dehydrate. It takes some getting used to....

Do not be concerned about your physical performance. With the food available and the daily regimen, you will do just fine. Despite the jokes about military food, the powers that be learned decades ago the principles of high energy nutrition. YOU ARE NOT GOING THERE TO FAIL. THEY WANT YOU TO SUCCEED AND BE ONE HELLUVA TROOPER!!!! (Don't expect 'bergers and fries. That's junk food. Our military cooks, or nutrition specialists, are some of the best in the world) And I still love S. O. S. with breakfast, even after retiring from the USAF in 1987 with 20 years' service flying fighters and instructing young fledgings.

I've been in the AF for 16 years. While you're training, do not worry about little things. Your instructor will provide you with the tools and skills necessary to excel in all areas. Focus on the foundation of AF concepts and have fun with it! You will be given immensely more information than I had in basic. Best of luck.

If I, at 18, 5'8", 120 pounds, in good health, could make it why not you? You will do fine.
You will also notice that the Air Force training is 6 weeks, and all the rest have longer training. Well that is because the Air Force is for the thinking men and women, not the ones that lift trucks! :-)

Your experences in BMT will stick with you for your entire life, so take in every second of it. Just don't think, let your DI do that for you and do what he says.
Believe me your DI will have helped a lot of guys that were 18, 6'2", 150 get throughit, so don't worry . BTW, I was 18, 6'3", 137 when I went into BMT.

In the air force if you can breath you will do alright.. but it sounds like if you joined the marines you would do fine. It is a matter of dedication. You might not do it at first. but before you got out. you would be able to do them all day long.
