anorak more of a geeky type!
I asked this question because I'd rather do my photography then waste an afternoon in a pub or wine bar, i get bored there after 10 mins! That's why i get called those things, it doesnt stop me I just laugh with them but occasionally it pisshes me off :)

Those sort of names are dumb. I don't see why someone should be called a nerd just because they take an interest in something.
I'm a DJ, and I love nothing more then going to record shops and rooting around in boxes of old vinyl. If I'm with someone with the same interest I can spend ages talking about using obscure breakbeats I've found on some old '45 that's long since been deleted. I can be such a vinyl nerd, but when I put it on at a party and it sounds good and everyone is dancing to it, no one thinks of it a geeky. Because it's music it's not instantly thought of nerdy.
I don't see why your photography should be any different when we both share the same level of passion for our respective interests. It's just people's ignorance, if they don't have an interest in a particular subject they can't understand why anyone else would.

I think the only thing that makes anybody with a hobby a nerd, geek or trainspotter is if they have nothing else in their lives and constantly talk about it expecting everyone else to be interested al the time. Everybody should be free to enjoy whatever they like without ridicule though.

I love taking pics of nature and insects!!! In fact I will go around to all kinds of dangerous places looking for spiders, flies, ants, and bees to photograph. One of the craziest things I did was to climb up on a ladder to get a closeup of a wasp's nest (with wasps still in it.) I also love taking closeup of flowers, etc. I think the macro mode on my camera is worn out LOL! I don't see anything wrong with it, some ppl really get into it. I would say it has a kind of 'NERDy" feel to it, but in a good way. It kind of blends science and art and you can really some beautiful photographs of living things. It's not really geeky, and I wouldn't consider it trainspotting-- if you mean a weird obsession?

None. He might be a twitcher or an anorak - if you're ignorant enough to give a silly label to a person with a perfectly respectable hobby. (And no, I'm not one)
