Try using "Apple Bitter" or vaseline mixed with cayenne pepper.
Then get them some good distraction chew toys.
That way they'll be grossed out & have to chew on the toys you got them.
When they chew the toys praise them like crazy!
Good Luck!

Crate train him or confine him to a safe area when he can't be supervised. You can also spray cords, furniture and other items he chews with Bitter Apple, Bitter Citrus or Hot Sauce. Also give him plenty of his own safe things to chew such as Kongs, Nylabones, Raw meaty beef bones, hard rubber dog toys, rope toys, etc.

Galileo by Nylabone- they sell these chew toys at PetSmart.com
They last forever and they love to chew them. If this is a puppy, it is probably teething. Try also giving it some frozen bagels- the tiny ones. They need to rub the gums and break the teeth through.
If your dog is older, it may be suffering from seperation anxiety and needs some doggy downers from the vet. Don;t let them destroy your house! And PLEASE do not give your dog plush toys, old socks, old shoes or anything to destroy that could be mistaken for new shoes, new socks or your nieces favorite teddy bear.

make sure your puppy has alot of chew toys and raw hide bones to help while teething. I have never had a dog chew any furniture or cords as long as he had something else to occupy his mouth.

You definitely must have chew toys! I have puppy trained 4 times and learn more with each one. "Nylabone" brand has different size and flavors that they like to lay and gnaw, or another toy that is time consuming for them is the "Kong" ball shaped toy that you can put a dog cookie in and it will take them an hour or two to get it out. Anything that will stimulate their mind and satisfy their curiosity and divert them from your stuff should work.
