It can lead to pre-cancer or cancer later in life. But if you go to the doctor regularly, don't be worried about it.

Some of the answers you were given are incorrect.
HPV can cause cervical cancer in women. Most people that re infected with HPV are carriers (men or women). Only a few strains of the virus cause warts or dysplasia.
Your immune system may or may not be able to fight an "outbreak" (warts), but your immune system will not be able to rid your body of the virus itself.
Women should always consult their GYN to discuss checkups and treatments.
Men who are infected with HPV rarely lead to more complicated medical conditions, however the possibility is there and they should also be aware of this.
Since the question has been asked, I'm assuming you have been diagnosed with HPV. Make sure you consult your GYN immediately.

Most women's immune system can handle it. Those that cannot stay infected and 99% of women show no physical symptoms other than a possible abnormal pap smear. Those females that get in fected with hpv are more than 100 times more likely to develop cervical cancer. There is now a vaccine for hpv. Hpv can infect a male also. Males are just carriers though, they show no symptoms what so ever.

Yes. Isn't that the virus that they are saying could lead to ovarian cancer if left untreated? See your doctor definitely if you believe you could have it.
