Well, usually the word depressed scares any one. But, don't worry it is not a big deal because now scientists have made fabulous pills that can change your mommy's point of view. I am afraid, that maybe your mom will not believe that she is depressed, because usually "depressed" people think that it will go away. And you just have to cure it because it can get a little bit worse. Talk to an aunt of someone so you can get the happy pill for your mother. God bless. :)

I am afraid your suspicions are correct. Your mom sounds clinically depressed. Try not to criticize her and ask her open ended questions to try to get her to open up to you. Something like, How are you? or Are you o.k.? Is something wrong, you look so sad? followed by a long pause can be very liberating to a depressed person. Try to suggest she get help at a local clinic or MD office. Depression is a chemical imbalance in the brain, if you had the same thing in your heart you wouldn't hesitate to see your MD. It is o.k., it is treatable and it happens. I know, believe me, I know all too well. The sooner she gets treatment the sooner she will feel better.

I have angxiety and I went to a counseler she prescribed me paxil when paxil didnt work my doctor put me on effexor it works great I can lead an everyday life now it's for depression too have her talk to her doctor and go to a counseler soon!:) she will be okay then. ask her about her day and see whats shes thinking that makes her want to sleep all day and not do anything ask her why she doesnt think shes beautiful? if she refuses to talk leave her alone for a little bit and go back to try again she will tell you eventually thats what depressed people want someone to listen to what they have to say.

I have depression and she is doing the same things I do during my more serious depressions. She needs a doctor ASAP. You have every right to be afraid for her, the deeper these depressions go the closer she is to suicidal thoughts, please listen to me I know from experience, I am on a group support board if you would like the link please mail me privately and I will give you the link.. I'm sorry if my post is scary for you but you need the best answers you can get and you also need to get your mom to a doctor as soon as possible.

sounds like depression to me. The mood swings suggest bipolar disorder, but I am not a professional. You should urge her to seek counseling. If she is depressed there are many products in the pharmacopoeia that, along with therapy, will help her get things under control.

She's depressed. Sometimes when people are depressed it keeps them from enjoying things they used to enjoy. In extreme cases it can lead them to hurt themselves. You should encourage her to have a "check-up" and then give her doctor a "heads-up" that she may be depressed so that he or she can ask the right questions to determine if she needs pharmaceutical or psychiatric treatments.

you need to sit your mom down and have a long heart to heart talk with her. explain to her you love her and you have noticed a huge change in her behavior and you know that she is depressed about something in life...if not all of her life, and she needs someone to talk to, and some help. it may actually be so serious she needs to see a doctor about some anti-depressants, which is common and very normal these days, and nothing to hide or be ashamed of. she is oviously very down about her self, and her self esteem is very low for her to think she is never going to be beautiful...she needs a perfessional to talk to about this, before it only gets worse and she ends up staying in this shape. she oviously needs a hobby or a job, or an excersice rutiene to get her out of the house and busy every day. she also needs to find the "root" to her problem and find out whats making her feel so ugly and ashamed and so useless and unworthy to just stay in the bed all day and do nothing. shes bad off it sounds like...but theres always help for this kind of thing and its normal for all of us to get down about our self sometimes. she just needs some help picking up the pieces and getting her self esteem and her life back. maybe as a daughter you could help her do this. she needs to get out the house and go shopping or whatever it is, and it may take you showing her how pitiful her life has become before she will actually take charge to do something about it. she just needs motivation and help..alot of your support i mean....because she cant do it by herself.....because shes already too down about herself to change on her own. if shes lonely...she needs activities to do to meet people and hobbies in the yard to get her out of the house...like a flower garden or anything that she can do...like going to the library or going to a park or anything...just get her moving and out of the bed! good luck!

Yes, she's depressed. Talk to another relative to get her some help. Does she have a physician? Get her to make an appointment with him/her.

Try to take your mom to a spa or something to calm her down. Or maybe your mom just needs a man in her life!

Have her contact her Dr. She is showing signs of depression. It is VERY treatable, and makes life a joy again.
She is very lucky to have a daughter like you.
