Of course not.
Some of the most happy well adjusted people I know have become that way with religion.
I could easily turn this around, "is *skepticism* a hindrance in the pursuit of happiness?" Can you imagine a person skeptical of everything being happy?
Like everything, we need balance.

Absolutely not! God designed us to need Him. We all have an emptiness, a void, a hole that we will spend the rest of our lives trying to fill. Only those who have a relationship with Christ will ever be truly fulfilled and satisfied. I read this AMAZING book you might be interested in. It's really short, it's called the lost virtue of happiness. it's about how years ago when people lived for God and things bigger than themselves they were a lot happier, but now that athiesim and new age paganism are so popular, depression rates have sky rocketed....

My belief in God has created happiness in my life. I was often depressed and lonely before I accepted Jesus. I had a terrible temper and got upset easily. I am now able to treat others in a kind and loving manner. I am accepting of others. I discovered activities that provide true enjoyment in my life - working with children, backpacking, coaching Special Olympics, etc. All of these activities make me happy and still allow me to live a life that is pleasing to the Lord. I enjoy life and live it to it's fullest.

Sexism, racism, nationalism, and religious intolerance, are just excuses people to use to justify false pride. Which comes from the EGO overcompensating for all the criticizing, complaining,
and general claptrap we have to hear about ourselves from others. FIGURE IT OUT!

That would depend on what one's personal definition of happiness is -- it is too subjective a term.
It would certainly hinder my pursuit of happiness, because part of what makes me happy is pursuing new ideas, living as I wish and believing all people should have the same rights and freedoms.

For some people, it is the only true path to happiness. It's all a matter of attitude and one's beliefs.

It is for me. I can believe in God and worship him anytime and any place that I choose. I do not have to abide by any stupid book that was written by men with their own agenda.
