You all are taking this all wrong. I'm 14, this was a topic of discussion with my friends at lunch the other day, we couldn't figure out if it was illegal to date minors, or if it was just illegal to have a sexual relationship with minors.

I can't believe how quickly everyone is to insult me and assume I'm so freaking pedaphile. I'm not, I was just curious!!

I'm sorry, but that question raises thoughts of suspension! Why would anyone what to know something like this, unless they just turned 18, and are dating younger, or they can't find a date their own age.
Either they re a looser, or a pedophile, and either one is bad

Dating, if it involves no physical contact of any kind (i.e., no kissing, intimate touching, inappropriate hugs, etc.) is not illegal; however, I can think of a million reasons why it is not a good idea. Even if there is no sexual contact, most societies frown on such situations. There is always the possibility that things will quickly escalate to sexual activity, if the opportunity for intimacy arises and intense feelings of attraction bubble to the surface. There is a very good reason why many people refer to minors as "jail bait". If you cross the line into sexual activity, there is a good chance that, at some point, you will be found out. If you are, as you no doubt fully realize, the consequences could be awful, especially for the adult in the relationship, but also for the child. Criminal courts won't care that any sexual activity was consensual: in most jurisdictions, sex with a minor is statutory rape or a similarly serious offence. In some jurisdictions, the act of dating child with the ultimate intention of having sex with him or her would be a criminal offence (psychologists refer to that behaviour as "grooming a child"). You do always run the risk of being charged with a criminal offence, such as contributing to the delinquency of a minor or some other "social" but non-sexual offence. In short, even if you believe that you are disciplined enough not to cross the line into overt sexual activities, dating a minor is a very inadvisable thing to do, even if there are no legal consequences attached to it. If you decide to date a minor, regardless, you should carefully research the law in your jurisdiction, so you know what risks you are running by doing so.

I think it's illegal to do anything which could be regarded as abusing your power towards that minor. Quite rightly too. Young children are too easily influenced by what an adult tells them is right.

Almost anything done with a minor could get you arrested for statutory rape.
