Is there anybody that knows if Winnebago Mental Health Institute in Wisconsin strip searches people for having suicidal thoughts? And if they take showers together or not?

I want to know if you'll be strip searched there when you're forced to go.

Yes. Even if you voluntarily admit yourself, they can strip search you and take all belongings that you came in with that could potentially be used to harm yourself, or someone else...that is, if you admit to them that you are having suicidal thoughts that include a plan of how you might kill yourself.

They can consider you dangerous to yourself and others just from you admitting that you have these dark thoughts. Be very careful of what you say to these doctors. I would do a lot of research on the place and the competence of the staff before putting your freedom and precious psyche in their hands.

There are wonderful therapists and doctors out there, but remember that just because they carry the title of professional doctor does not always mean that they have your best interest at heart. A lot of the time these jerks convince us that we are sick and need their care and meds in order for them to rob you blind.

If you need someone who's been there to talk to, feel free to email me with any questions or comments at all. I know it hurts to feeel so alone. Please don't give up. Things do change, feelings change...you will not feel this way forever. This world needs you in it. You are not here by accident. God bless you and I pray for your pain to end and for you to smile again soon.

I was in a Mental Hospital last year for trying to commit suicide. Something I'm not proud of.I have Bi-Polar and was in a very depressed state. They did not strip search me. You have a private room if you can afford it or you share with another patient. They do not have you shower with other ppl. They do however take all items that they feel will be harmful to you or others.I also live in Wisconsin and was at the Boscabel Mental Hospital.

I was voluntarily commited to a mental hospital. (not the same one you are referring to) To the best of my knowledge, i was not strip searched. Although, I was given a heavy dose of something upon admission, so i cannot be 100% sure. I was in a manic phase of my bipolar disorder, so I pretty much needed to be there.

I did not take showers with anyone. I had a private room. I wouldn't take a shower unless my mom was visiting me and was in my room as the rooms had no locks on the doors. I was there for a week.

Since you are planning your visit, can you ask your doctor these questions prior to admission?

I don't know about that particular hospital...however I work in the mental health field and have had to accompany several clients on admissions to psych. hospitals. Strip search is a stretch, but most hospitals (whether you're suicidal or not or going voluntarily or not), will confiscate items that you could potentially use to harm yourself with. (i.e.) shoe laces, belts, glass items, pants that have a drawstring on them, etc.

I think if you go in voluntarily you won't be stripped searched. (II also live in Wisconsin) If you're planning on committing yourself I'd call the institution myself and see what I'm in for!! There's no reason for it to be a suprise!!
Good Luck To You!!
