Which I am sure you can imagine is quite a disaster when she poops either in the diaper before she takes it off, or after she takes it off while she is sleeping. She is 21 months old. I can't get her to keep her pajamas on, even the ones with the footies and that zip or snap closed. She has been able to get out of every piece of clothing she has slept in. I don't want her to keep having these accidents in her bed, I am afraid it could get her sick. Any suggestions on ways to keep her diaper and her clothes on her at night or at nap times?

You need to find jammies that button or zip up the back. If she's can't reach behind, she won't be able to remove the clothing. Buttons might not work since you can eventually pry them. You may have to resort to a zipper. If you can't find something that zips up the back, make it yourself. Just get one of those pajamas with the footies... cut off the footie part and turn it around. You may have to buy a size bigger since it might fit a bit weird, but it'll do the trick. What the worst that can happen? You lose $10 on a pair of jammies that you can still use from the front!

*laughs* this is funny, but perfectly normal behavior. my neice did the same exact thing a couple of years ago, and she was hard to keep clothed, or keep a diaper on. and yes, she made messes in her diaper and then tore it off and it would get all over her baby bed mattress. so this is not uncommon behavior. she grew out of it though. i suppose she was just a hot natured kid and didnt like wearing her clothes along with a blanket at night. that could have been the problem. also she might just want to be clean, and since she "messed her diaper" and wants it off of her she has to take her clothes off to get to her diaper to get it off...so she removes both. it would be a good idea to maybe check on her every couple of hours and make sure she has a clean diaper on, because if its dirty she may start taking it off and make a mess. also i wouldnt put as many clothes on her because she may be hot and that could be the reason shes taking the clothes off as well. good luck...but dont worry, she will grow out of it eventually.

try using a pull-up over diapers with p.j.s union suits are the most difficult to get off but they are also hard to find for that age. This doesn't help all the time but sometimes it works. As far as her getting sick. My children have never gotten sick I don't know how they haven't because I have had alot of diaper disasters. They also eventually grow out of it

With cloth diapers and rubber pants you could pin the pants to her nighty or an undershirt behind her. With pampers you can run a strip of duct tape clear around so she can't get her fingers under an edge. Easier than both of these would be put a plastic sheet under the sheet on her bed.Put her to bed on just the sheet. Cover her after she is sleeping soundly.

You might want to try changing the brand of diaper you're using. If the diaper you're using is uncomfortable, your daughter is going to keep taking them off. If you change to a brand that doesn't bother her, she might not be so apt to remove them during her naps. My son used to do the same thing. We changed to a Huggies diaper and the problem stopped.

I'm with Neeta on this one. My son has been figetting with his diapers constantly lately, so for night-time I have been pinning his rubber pants right to his cloth diapers. It's precautionary for the time being, but it should put a damper on his diaper play.

If your using disposable diapers, still try using diaper pins to put the diapers on with. Good luck at best!

P.S. If you are using cloth, reserve one pair of rubber pants for the pinning, because it makes a real mess out of them.

Okay my friend solved this problem by putting her sons diaper on backwards along with a onesie shirt on backwards.
You could also have her take naps in a pack'n play near you so you can watch her.

Perhaps you could use cloth diapers and she won't be able to open the safety pins? Or try putting her jammies on backwards. Then she won't be able to take them off. You could also ask her pediatrician for advice. They've probably heard of it and have tried & true remedies. Good luck...must be exhausting for you.

My cousin's little boy was doing this around that age. She used duct tape. This frustrated him very much and she quit doing it after about a week and he never took his diaper off again!
