Is it possible to eliminate all the chemicals that are needed to make a bomb? Where are the terrorists and insurgents getting the materials for bomb making? What about the expertise? Is it possible to arrest all personnel with the technical skills required? Is it possible to guard Iraq's borders so no weapons get in? Can we offer money in exchange for weapons? What can be done to eliminate ALL weapons and bomb making materials from the hands of terrorists and insurgents?

You can't get rid of all explosive materials, but you can make it extremely difficult to obtain military grade explosives. IMHO, the best thing to do would be to change the ROE to make ANYONE with a weapon a target, shoot on sight. Eliminates the need by the soldier to make so many decisions, speeding up his reaction time. Also need to move all military camps and bases out into the desert with a free fire zone around the perimeters. We're not going to win the hearts and minds of these people when they were raised to hate Americans. Did we leart nothing from Vietnam???

Without violating OPSEC, the simple answer is NO.

(1) You cannot possibly eliminate all the industrial chemicals and materials that can be used to create an explosive device, unless you are willing to essentially gut all agriculture and industry in a given area. There is just NO WAY.

(2) As for the apprehension of IED cells, the details on the sealing of Iraqi borders ... that is not for public domain.

(3) "Cash for weapons" programs have been done numerous times. Needless to say, in an armed society such as Iraq where firearms equate prestige, you will never disarm the populace to European or Japanese levels.

Where there is a will, there is a way. If butterknives are all that's left in the hands of the insurgents, they'll find a way to fight with those things too.

Well, it's technically POSSIBLE. You'd have to build a gigantic fence, and dome over the entire country, then a facility to house every man, woman and child in their own cell. Each containing only water, and food. Anything short of that? No, it's not possible. There's any number of household items that can be used to create an explosive if the person knows how. An explosion does'nt neccessarily have to involve explosives. The combustion of fuel vapors in an engine is in reality an explosion. The gunpowder in ammunition does the same. Using anything which expands at a tremendous rate can generate an explosive effect. (compressed air for example)

Not only no, but hell no. But let me comment on exchanging money for weapons. Municipalities in America have tried that. They offer cash and amnesty, maybe 25 bucks or so for any firearm, to get them off the street and out of the ghetto. Then they send them to nearest steel mill and melt them.

Problem is that what they get are junkers, like grandpa's worn-out .32 revolver that won't fire anyway. Then the seller has money for some crack, or he puts it toward a better gun (bought in his girl-friend's name since she doesn't have a rap sheet yet) or even steals another. And of course, the answer isn't registration, since none of these guns have a pedigree anyway.

So people like Mayor Ray Nagin of New Orleans take the other approach, use a natural disaster like Katrina as an excuse to seize firearms from their lawful owners, and never return them. Well, at least Kathleen Blanco, Governor of Louisiana, has finally "approved" the FEDERAL law that now bans unconstitutional actions like this by Nagin and others (she didn't have much choice but to do so). One small step forward.

you may as well ask why haven't we won a war in a country that's 100,000 sq miles smaller than the state of Texas. we could have won if we locked it down when we first got in there. but now every ones pissed because things are worse than they were before we arrived. we could have already pulled out with a victory, if we actually went in with the intent to win.

Of course not. Weapons can be made from almost anything. If someone wants to harm someone else. They really can't be stopped.

As long as the US invading army is in Iraq, it is difficult to disarm the US army, because the army keeps on bringing more explosives to kill the Iraqis.

Nothing short of killing all of them, which IMHO is the best idea.
