I'm looking to get the car to last me about 6 months in the meantime. Looking for a new house in a month and don't want to get a car unless I have to. It's the 3.4L on a Grand Am. Real reason is I have a toy that I don't want to drive in the winter (it's never been driven in the winter). If I can pay about a grand for a car to get me through the winter, I think it'll be worth it. I want to know if this engine has about 20K plus left in it (115K on it currently)

hard question to answer. it would depend a lot on previous owner, how did they drive it, maintain it. 115k on a modern car is not that much depending on how it was treated. better off finding car with 3800 v-6. that was one of gm's better engines.

drive it and see. If it runs good now...then just take care of it while you are driving it and it should be ok. If you have a "toy car" that you don't drive in the winter then you are somewhat savvy about cars. You will know if it's gonna last or not.

Good luck

im not too fond of the 3.4 engine. Hard to work on and really its a pain to deal with. 3.1 or 3.8 V-6 rock.

If you want that engine, you better re-built it, new rings, crank seals, valve job, I'm surprised its running at all, i hate the gm
V-6`s.
