How big is the event your friend is counting on your for? That is, can he/she not go without you or are you needed at this event?

You have to do the honorable thing. Your word has to count for something.

If it's not a big deal event, just call your friend and say I really don't feel like going out tonight, I'm sorry.

If you really should morally go, then use this as a lesson to yourself for the future that you say what you mean and only what you mean.

Hum!! you should really tell her the truth but what the heck one little white lie won't do no harm - Tell her you ate prunes for breakfast and they have gone right through you and you have been on the loo all afternoon ha ha ha, Must admit when you don't really fancy going out and you do you usually have a fab time

Honesty and a counter-offer. Tell your friend you thought it sounded fun at the time, but you really have a bad feeling about going out. The counter offer is to invite your friend to come over to your house and watch movies and eat popcorn until you resemble one.

You should follow through with going out with your friend. If they are counting on you it is important to stick to your word.
You could ask if another night would work with your friend. But otherwise you've made a commitment to them.

You should have said "no" if you do not wanted to go out. since you have said "yes" make the effort to go just for an hour or two. Who knows you might end up enjoying the nite out.

If you are a "bailer" then go ahead and bail, she's likely expecting it.

If you don't normally bail, then just let her know that you've changed your mind, you are not having a good day and would just rather stay in. She will understand and accept it if you don't normally leave her on the limb.

Tell her as soon as possible, so she can invite someone else, and doesn't spend all day getting excited about it.

Say, "I know we planned on going out, but I'm just not feeling up to it. Let's do it next weekend instead."

Say you changed your mind, it is the truth right? Do not make up an elaborate excuse, if you do, you will have to keep playing the hoax.

Just be honest and truthful. That's what I would do.
