The leftover parts of the cow, referred to as 'mechanically-separated meat parts'. That can include butt meat, stomach, brains and intestines. They are shoved into the intestines of the cattle along with fillers, hydrogenated fat and starch. Chemical preservatives, salt and MSG are often added.
On the other hand, a tofu dog is just that and honestly, they taste better and if you brush them with a little oil and barbeque sauce, they taste great on the BBQ. So does vegetarian pizza with extra cheese and shrimp skewers with mushrooms and pineapple.

Kosher hot dogs are beef. Non-kosher ones are made of pork and turkey. I'm not a fan of the beef ones...they just don't taste right to me.
Natural casing wieners, like Deutschmaker, use the intestines for the outside, but they are thoroughly washed and sterilized. That's what makes them snap when you bite them.
Modern people get grossed out at the idea of consuming lips, tongues, etc...but early American settlers didn't care. They used every part of the animal; so did the Indians. It's all still meat.

depending on what kind of hotdog you buy, there can be a variety of things in them. some well known brand name hotdogs have mostly beef or pork in them. others have a mixture of meat but none of it should be a threat to a normal human, but remember even though a hotdog is pre-cooked, it is always better to make sure you prepare it as advised.

The remnants of pork and chicken snouts, tails,
feet and some innards that are leftovers from the butcher who just trimmed the roast, chops,
breast, thighs etc. You really don't want to know! (GAG)
The best way to go is 100% beef - expensive but delicious and more healthy.

I buy soy dogs. So mine is filled with tofu and grains.
Meat eaters eat the parts of the cow, pig, turkey and chicken that they can't sell. They grind up the feet, toes, ears, intestines, liver, brains and smash it into that outer shell(the casing)....by the way that is made of intestines. YUCK.
