Rimadyl is the usual arthritis medication most vets start with. If it's not helping as much as you'd like, there is a stronger anti-inflammitory medication called Medicam that is a liquid and is dosed according to weight. I had a 9yr old beagle that had to have his hip replaced due to arthritis, and they also started him on Rimadyl, but after I told them it didn't seem to be keeping him comfortable, they put him on the Medicam oral liquid. Good luck to you and your baby!

Hi JellyBean.
I own a 9 y.o. German Shepherd with severe arthritis to the spine. Our farm vet also gave us Rimadryl and an an-acid for the stomach, but Holly Vaughn has little chips in her disc's that literally made her immobile. In a severe way.

We live in a horse farm, so we're always treating someone for something; anyway, not sure if you've ever heard of a company called Springtime Feed. They offer tons of all-natural organic supplements from horses to dogs to people.

We actually put Holly Vaughn on one of their suppliments and that was the only thing that saved her.

My mother is acutally a distributor for Animal Trace Minerals (formerly known as powerhorse) that also offer amazing naturally chelated minerals for humans, dogs and horses.

I know it's frustrating when you've tried everything and nothing seems to work. We have a very, very strong relationship with all of our animals so, naturally, we've tried everything. All I can say is... Watching our foundered Clydesdale walk and run again - was all the proof we needed that these animal trace minerals WORK! If you have any questions, please feel free to get in touch with me. Best of luck to you and your precious fur kid.

Suffering Dog?
Hypericum Perforatum (St. John's Herb, hoemopathic) is the non-toxic answer to pain! Dillute one pill in a quarter ounce of purified water. Make fresh every day. You may want to give the dog a drop under his tongue, every few minutes, until the pain goes down - which often happens within 10 minutes. Then give it less and less often, every 10, 20, 30, 60 minutes, but at least 5 times a day. This also strengthens the immune system and lifts depression and dark moods. It is used in advanced European hospitals.

Arthritis:
I would use Dinshah Color MedicineTM, a hospital proven color method that was used in the early 20th century in the US with great success. It is very inexpensive to use.

For inflamation use Blue. Temperatures over the inflamed area would be around 96 to 98 degrees F, indicating the need for Blue. You could measure the temperature with a digital thermometer, which is availbale for about $7 at Walgreens or other department stores. Choose one with a beep, not flexible.

If the temperature is in the cool range, may be 93.5 to 94, use the Dinshah color Lemon or Scarlet.

If the temperature is lower, may be 92.5 to 93, use Orange.

Always make sure that the dog enjoys the color, not moving out of it, avoiding it. You can redirect the color onto him when he moves out of the shine, but if he moves out again, then he means it. Animals are normally very good in choosing the color they need. Show him different colors, if you like, and see which one he seems to feel more comfortable with.

You can use a reading lamp but you will need correct Dinshah Filters. You can purchse a cut set for may or make your own. Please inquire with the Dinshah Health Society (Internet), or ask at http://www.biochakra.com if they have one filter set for you, ready to use ($60).

You can even learn more about this non-toxic, life energy enhancing, easy to use method by enrolling in the Dinshah Color MedicineTM/Bio*Chakra MedicineTM basic distant learning course via http://www.biochakra.com

A good diet is essential to keep up the good energy. Dog food makes acidic and is rarely fresh. I would feed my dog wild rice (makes alkaline), mixed under his dog food, or put some gravy on it. I also would feed my dog vegetables. Soem dogs love melons, cantalopes etc. I would also measure his or her pH of urine and saliva. Dogs are sometimes so acidic from their food that they die young and their lick may burn the skin of sensitive people.

You can get pH paper at your health food store or via the Internet. A role costs between $4 and $12.

I feel that you can help your dog suffer less and enjoy life more.

The vet should do more..... Maybe a warm towel wrapped around him, you know keep the blood flowing and stimulated...tht might even help the meds he does have to be enough. But I really think your vet should do more, that a little dissappointing.

make sure he has a very comfortable bed to lay on and maybe massage him when he is hurting, my mom had a dog that had arthritis real bad and it made things worse because she was also way overweight and didn't get any exercise , so make sure that he don't get overweight and like on days he is hurting take him for a small walk to help relieve the pain , other than that , just make sure he takes his medicine faithfully
