Canadian Maher Arar was sent by the US to Syria for torture because he was suspected of terrorist ties based on flimsy RCMP intelligence. He has since been entirely exonerated, but in order to stop the torture, he said he was connected to Al Qaeda. It is now admitted by all parties that the evidence against him was false, but nonetheless, they have the tortured confession.

If you were tortured by the Christian President, would you tell a lie, admit to something that was not true, if it would stop the torture?

Of course that would depend how severe the torture was, whether there was any realistic possibility that it would end without me saying anything and what exactly I would have to say.

Hasn't Bush tortured me enough? Truthfully, I would never back down. If they were torturing a friend or a loved one , I probably would digress.
