Alexander the Great did much to spread Greek culture, even influencing Egypt itself. The Romans embraced the Greek culture especially after the founding of Constantinople. Also Greek was the trading language of the entire middle east (a very lucrative trade- the silk road), and was an important second language as English is today.

Because Rome absorbed Greece and used its culture as a base for its own empire. However, the influence of Egypt was never absent. It was also a part of the Roman tradition on which Western civilization is grounded. There were temples to my namesake, Isis, goddess of Egypt, in Rome all the way into the 5th century. And Egyptian tradition came into the later Christian Roman tradition through many of the major thinkers of the early church. Its basically the basis of western thought.
for example, philosophy, politics, education, drama, the arts, and medicine.
Ancient Egyptian culture were more mystical, religious, somewhat theosophical though. but Greek culture is more common mainly because they not only flourished in the aforementioned fields but adapted knowledge's from different places in the world during the travels of Grecian academe's or conquerors.
They were even the models for Rome, and the dual world and other concepts present in Catholicism were borrowed from their philosophies.
Greece is to the West as India and China are to the East. They all have rich and older cultural heritages.
