As a cancer survivor I know how bad chemo is but you need your mom to discuss her concerns with her oncologist and explain what the pain is and that it is so bad that she wants to stop. He/She should be giving her meds to help this pain but sometimes it is not enough. She needs to have open communication with the doc and explain what is going on. If you stop the chemo the cancer will not get better. Talk about your concerns. If the doc won't help get a new one who will but don't stop the treatment. Be as positive and supportive of your mom you can and encourage her that it will be ok and help her as much as you can. She needs all the love and support as possible as well from you and her docs! Good Luck!!!!

First of all, I'm sorry to hear about you mom. Y'all need to talk to her oncologist about her pain. There are many wonderful medications available today so there is really no reason for a patient to be in that much pain.
Talk to your mom and find out what SHE wants. She may want to quit the chemo because she is just tired of fighting and wants to be able to die. Often a patient gets tired of the pain, nausea, and just tired of the cancer and they want to quit chemo, but will continue because they think the family will be upset if they quit. So, it's important to find our what your mom wants.
If she wants to quit the chemo, have her oncologist refer her to hospice. They will be able to get her pain under control, help with medicines related to the cancer, provide comfort (both physically and spiritually). Your family will be able to make many decisions about her care along with the hospice team.
Good luck!

Chemo is no fun. I start mine on Monday. But I know I'm gonna do it because that is the only way to get out of cancer. Tell her that you'll be with her through the whole thing and once she gets through it she'll be stronger and proud of herself for making it... not to forget she'll probably be better!

Why doesn't the doctor give her pain medicine to help her over the rough spots? if she stops the treatment, the cancer will not be stopped. Everything depends upon how bad the cancer is & what treatment she is receiving. Good luck, Honey - I know how hard it must be for you & your family. God bless!

Please talk with her oncologist about this.
Really, we only have experiences here, we are not professionals.
There could be many reasons for her wanting to stop. YOU need
to talk to her and her oncologist and her family physician NOW!!
good luck to you all
