Try your local animal shelter. Talk to the shelter supervisor and let them know what you are looking for. Sometimes they will put you on a list for certain breeds/sizes. If you live in a metropolitan area, check nearby animal shelters, too.
Next, try a rescue organization. There are Pug Rescues, Pomeranian Rescues, all sorts of rescues that specialize in certain breeds. The upside to this option is you can get a slightly older dog, like 1 year or so, who might be house broken (bonus!) and will be less likely to get overly rowdy or playful with the older dog you have.
Have you considered Yorkies? Jack Russell Terriers? Mini Poodles are supposed to be VERY smart and highly trainable, a plus if you will be in public with your dog a lot. You want something small and personable. I have pugs, but they don't travel well. Look for a dog that doesn't have a "smashed in" face because they usually don't travel well or tolerate hot or cold weather. (Plus the breathing problems and the chronic snoring.)
Here is a link to "Pet Finder"... you can search a database of adoptable pets nationwide, I think. http://www.petfinder.org/
Good luck & happy puppy searching!

If your current dog is pretty old I wouldn't recommend getting a new puppy. Puppies are usually very playful and if your current dog is old its not going to take kindly to the pups agitating. If your dog is middle aged and still playful it shouldn't be a problem. What ever you do don't buy the same sex of your current dog. They will fight for dominance. I once had an older English Pointer(male) very mild easy going dog. We bought a Labrador Retriever(male) who was a wonderful dog also. While he was still very young my Eng. Pointer didn't want much to do with him .He had a hard time adjusting to the new pup. They would get jealous of each other and they would fight. As the Lab got older he was very dominate of the other dog. It was very tough sometimes.I don't know if there's a toy breed of the Pomeranian but they are neat dogs. I had a Long Haired Chihuahua when I was a kid. It was a wonderful friendly dog. It looked like a small fox. Good Luck!

Sorry sweetie, but a Pomeranian IS a toy breed. They don't come in sizes. LOL I guess the only advice I can give you is to kennel train whatever breed you choose. That way it will be used to being in a crate when youtravel, and you can close him up for awhile when you faithful old pal needs some quiet time from the new addition. We are considering getting a Mimiature Schnauzer. They can be pretty hyper as puppies, but they shed MUCH LESS than most other breeds. Whatever you get you will love it, have fun choosing, and enjoy your new baby!!!

as far as I know the pom is in the toy breed. Try a teacup yorkie, very cute dogs. If your lasa apso likes being in peace, and you do bring a new pup in the house, just pay attention to the both of them. Dont leave either of them unattended together.

in toy dogs i like the maltese because they dont shed and are adorable the yorkshire terrier becasue theyre cute tiny and loyal and minpin's because theyre a tiny dog with a big attitude and theyre short haired so they dont require a lot of grooming all three breeds can range in size from 5 to 15 lbs. but some breeders breed specifically for smallness.
p.s. the other dog will soon get used to a new puppy. who knows, maybe shell even enjoy the company!
good luck!!

Get a Chinese Crested. We have 3 lil boys who are the smartest, funniest, entertaining, want to be with you all the time etc. Out of the same litter comes a hairless version and a hairy version. I used to have big dogs, but these little guys are so loyal and bring me such pleasure I would never ever have any other.

i could be what i'm now, a good ol' American mixed breed. i could be severe, have a good artwork ethic, and want to stay in a good working domicile. If I have been stored as purely a puppy in a fenced backyard, i could be digging super holes and barking simply by shear boredom of all of it. i could want to be taken places, to examine new issues, and to work out human beings. i could be friendly yet reserved and not aggressive. i could be very dependable to my loving proprietor and to the my relatives. My look could be usual. No extremes, in line with possibility a medium or double coat. very such as a go between a spaniel and a shepherd. shade black in line with possibility brown with slightly white trim. i could be alluring to examine and advantageous to the touch. i could problaby weight 50-60#.

mini dauschunds are great dogs! If you want your dog to be affectionate towards other people, keep them around a kid (human, not goat) so they are okay with being poked and prodded at.
Dogs (all) are naturally territorial.
The toy breeds that have a great demeaner (in my opinion) are Jack Russell Terriers, mini weiner dogs, mini pinschers, Yorkshire Terriers, and pugs.
