Our little guy is 15 months old, and today he's been in his room for over an hour playing, not napping. Do you think I should get him out of the room, or keep him there and see if he falls asleep? He acted tired before I put him down.

I'm a full time father of 3 kids a 6 year old, a 2 year old and a one year old. I can tell you this from pure experience, children crave alone time just like we do! I know my youngest son (17 months) will sit in his bed for about an hour in the morning before wanting to get out, if we get him out before he is ready, he's pissed. I have a rule of thumb at my house, if the baby is safe, happy, dry and full, let him do what ever he wants. The baby could quite honestly be sick of you and need a break for a bit, time to explore for him/herself, let him explore. plus that, its good for mommy and daddy to get a break too. as long as you don't get that god aweful bald spot (cradle cap) or the square head, they're fine.

Good luck,

Huge.

Do you have a set nap time? If my daughter doesn't fall asleep after an hour in her room, we go for a drive and she usually falls asleep. Sleeping in a moving vehicle isn't the same kind of sleep as sleeping in their bed, so I always put her to bed early on those nights. If you try driving him around to get him to sleep, stop driving as soon as you can and he'll go into a deeper sleep, maybe even deep enough to get him into his crib. I learned this method in a book called "Good Night Sleep Tight" by Kim West. The only time my daughter is allowed to sleep during the day is between 1 and 3, and since starting that a month ago she goes right down for naps and bedtime.

When my daughter is happily playing in her crib I let her. I dont think I let her for much over an hour though since she probably needs a new diaper and dont want her to get a rash. When I hear her call for "mommy" I know she is ready to get up. Besides when she is in there safe and happily playing it gives me a little more time to get things done or relax.

If he's happy playing in there, sounds great for both of you. When my oldest was 15 months, he would nurse himself to sleep and go down for naps like that. We got rid of the crib in the first few months and had him sleep with us, so he always had to be asleep or I couldn't leave him there.

Our youngest stopped napping at 9 months - life was way too exciting for sleep.

As long as he is not crying or screaming to get out of his crib let him be. He will most likely fall asleep eventually.
