How long have you known this guy? I assume both of you have talked before.
From a guy's perspective I would start out talking about a common subject and then tell him that this weekend you didn't have plans and ask him what he was doing.

I rather ask the girl out, but wouldn't mind if a girl I was interested in did same. Why don't you see if he is interested in you? Do you see him looking at you? Maybe not, but talk with him and find out what he is like. That's always the first key. They have to know you're alive first. LOL.

The rest is nerves, and if you're nervous stay nervous but try to remain calm. Above all, don't try to be someone you're not.

There really is no black or white answer because someone may not be interested in you at first, but yet they find something about you when they get to know you a bit.

Smile. Ask when you are not within earshot or view of his buddies or your girlfriends. Make sure you leave some room for a graceful decline. Ask him if he would like to do something specific on a specific date. If he turns you down by saying he has plans. Offer to change the date. If he turns you down twice, I would back off.

Depense alot on the guy. Feel him out. Don't look to hard for signs of interest that you misread things that aren't there. Don't be to pushy and upfront or that might be intimidating. Suggest hanging out kinda casually, but doing something together but 2 of you alone so he knows you are interested.

How about I have two tickets to see a movie but my friend can't come...do you want to join me?
It has merit because if he says no it's not like you'll feel embarrased because you haven't technically asked him out so to speak.

you can't just ask a guy like that..first you have to be friends and then be like "do you like to hang out this weekend" and then find out what he likes and after that, soon, he'll ask you out. but if he doesn't then just be like "you want to go out with me??"

Assuming you have some contact with him (if not develop it), "Oh, i have to go to the mall, or where ever, do you want to come". Have a coke and see what happens.
