All Benadryl relieves itching. So pick the one meant for the person's age and weight. There is one name brand with Benadryl Allergy on the box, actually, but there are non name brands that work too.

A doctor can tell you why you're itching and give you a better idea about the medicine you need though.

Buy benadryl topical (liquid or gel or whatever).
That way you can just put in on where you need it if it is a small area and don't have to have the drug affect your whole body. I like it better for things like mosquito bites that make me insane.

Benadryl is the brand name for diphenhydramine. There's only one type, just like there's only one type of aspirin, just different brand names. Liquid is easier to measure out for kids.

Any form of Benadryl will work - either local (like cream) or systemic (pills). Side affect is drowsiness - so DO NOT DRIVE!
Also beware - do NOT use alcohol (liquor/beer,etc.) as this will enhance the effect...Make you very sleepy - and UNSAFE to drive car or operate other machinery.
