All those answers are good, but the one thing that will allow us to use things that are very small, and get cars to have great fuel mileage [even though there are prototype engines which already do, it's just that the oil companies are in with vehicle maunfacturers and don't want them on the market. This is absolutely true. I think it was Honda that came up with an engine in the early 1990s that would perform acceptably and gave a four door sedan approx 85+MPG in the city. It sale price was deemed "too expensive" for consumers to want to buy it. Yeah and how much do we spend on gasoline now?], is to come up with new materials.
So, the next great accomplishment will be building current things we use out of new materials which allow the things to perform in heretofore only dreamed of ways.
