because both existed and came into being at the will of and action of God. if you accept the biblical story of creation.
One could also assume that the story when first given to humanity was originally Eve first, but that the patriarchal society spun the tale to justify keeping women in second place, as it would be rather difficult to justify male rule if the Creator had started with woman and then changed the recipe to create man
But God created the universe, and I have trouble making toast, so who am i to question God.

Good question for philosophy! If the writers of the stories to the Jews had said that Adam came from Eve, it would have supported the views of the feminist, and that would not have been good for the warrior-type Yahveh diety of the Jews, who was viewed as a masculine diety. Remember that the stories also said that the female was the one which partook of the forbidden fruit. From the conception of the Jewish creation story, undoubtedly gathered from multiple other civilizations and compressed into the Jewish version, woman has always been subjugated to man, forever to be cursed for what some may view as the desire to expand knowledge. From a look at history, it could be said that before this point, male and female were held in same esteem, and shared in the development and spread of knowledge and power.
For a good read on the subject, you may want to check out "The Alphabet Versus the Goddess", by Leonard Shlain, which ties different concepts together through, well, rational male-tendency thought processes (no gender defamation or 'ribbing' intended).

But if Adam came from Eve, where would the Y gene come from, hmm? For XY to give birth to XX, you just replicate an existing gene, if we're using your chromosome logic. But for XX to make XY, there would have to be a whole new chromosome. Which is why males make women PREGNANT to this day!! Hence the rib

Well the creation story is just that - a story! We evolved from a common ape ancestor - bones have been found which are clear evidence of this. Males and females must have appeared at the same time sporadically all over the world because it isnt possible to get the variety of gene pool we have now and always have had from 2 individuals and neither can exist without the other.

The book of Genesis is a collection or works from at least 3 different Sumerian, Babylonian, other authors & you are trying to directly match it up against conventional science. Just hit yourself round the head with a book - it'll achieve the same result & be much much quicker.

Yup, just comes to show god might really be a man if he took credit for what his wife prolly did. It's ok hag, sometimes you just can't cover up something as serious as that. But I should prolly be asking myself...why does michalangelo's david show 'god' looking like Zeus? Darnet, I shoulda known a story from only one side was biased, oh kewl, there's a book that's like the bible but from native american mythology, ohhh it says a woman was the great spirit, darnet I just waisted half my life.
