ok, I have always been allergic to pecans, so I stay away from them. Last night mom made a dish with pecans, but set some aside with out pecans for me. However, it still had the pecan flavoring. within 30 min I had the worst reaction ever, and mom had to drive me to the ER. They said I had gone into anacalyptic shock. So, they said I must stay away from all pecans-flavoring included. Thye said my reactions are more severe and faster acting now, and it could get worse.
so here my question...are pecans tree nuts? if a package says it cmay contain tree nuts di I stay away? Also, why can I eat all the peanuts I want with absolutly no prob? cause wouldn't all nuts have the same effect on me? cause peanuts dont bother me. So can I buy somethin that says tree nuts? is that pecans?

well ironically i'm allergic to peanuts and just had to go to the ER because at an away game, i ate a peanut cookie. i almost died and also went into anacalyptic shock. once my reaction started it only took about 5 minutes from start to finish. i know what you are going thru. i probably have it worse because there are peanuts in everything. you should probably stay away from anything that was made in the same area as peacans to be safe. i think peacans are tree nuts, so you probably shouldnt eat anything that says may contain tree nuts, just as i should stay away from products that may contain peanuts.

the reason you can eat peanuts but not peacans, just as i can eat peacans but not peanuts, is because you are allergic to whats in the peacan. i'm only allergic to the protein in peanuts, so i can still eat peanut oil (what most fried chicken is made in). you should go to an allergy docter and ask them to help you find out what in the peacan you are allergic too.

LOOK thats interesting you s aid that. MY gf can eat peanuts and go to ER.BUT pecans are ok. So theres just something you cant eat. MINE is bananas and kiwi and peaches. I also have asthma so i wonder if they are linked.JUST stay a way from pecans. BE ware also what you buy. SOME times this stuff on the shelves pre made has pacan flavorings in it chocolate chip cookies included. WOULD be great to write companies before you buy the products. I wouldn't risk it if I were you, stick to peanuts. My wife's allergic to ANY kind of nut - peanuts, walnuts, cashews, pecans, you name it - and if I eat anything with nuts in it and kiss her, she gets a big sore in her mouth. You go into anaphylactic shock if you eat pecans. That means you stop breathing (which you knew about!) and that could be FATAL, so I would completely stay away from anything I wasn't sure about if I were you.

By the way, four minutes without oxygen and you start suffering brain damage, so BE CAREFUL!!!!

Peanuts grow in the ground, pecans grow on trees. Hope this helps.

Pecans are tree nuts. Walnuts, almonds, etc are grown on trees.

Peanuts are grown on a vine, like a pea. They are a legume. Two different things.

P.S. Here is a site that actually lists all the nuts that are grown on trees.
