adam came first, my dear. god created man, then saw that man was "lonely" and created woman. the debate is whether you think Eve was the first woman, or he first created a woman named Lilith (thus the name of the female music fair--Lilith Fair), and they didn't get along, or somesuch, and then Eve had to be created as a replacement. but adam was definitely before the womenfolk.
for sure there is no guarantee that the bible and science are going to match; some people believe that god also created science, so in fact, every single thing that science thinks was done on purpose by god (ie the female gene thing, etc.); besides, do you really think anything is totally PROVEN by science? they find new things all the time. it's a constant debatable field of study.
i'm not saying i believe in either one; i'm saying that i don't think it's possible to say who is right, the bible or science. remember that a lot of the bible stories are not considered "real" stories, like they happened literally, but as metaphors or models or symbols.
