Hey, any Thai out there, pls help me with this question.
I will be in Bangkok during the next week. Hopefully I will land at the new airport of Bangkok, the so-called Suvarnabhumi Airport. Does any of you know how far is it from Bangkok downtown?
By the way, I will stay at the Grand Hotel at the address of 20 Ratchadapisek 18, Huay-Kwang, BKK 10310. what is the cheapest way to transfer from the airport to that hotel? Any bus route or express way???
Thanks in advance any help

Suvarnabhumi Airport is about 2-hours drive to Bangkok! Cars from rental companies available (expensive, average Bahts 2000). Taxis go the same way for less (average Bahts 1000). There are shuttle/public buses for a fraction of that price, serves to major tourist destinations and hotels in Bangkok. Full details at the Airport! Have fun ;-)

The new airport is about 15 kms. East of Bangkok. Unfortunately, the new underground train extension is still under construction so you'd have to take a taxi-meter by showing him the address of your hotel, which is in downtown. It shouldn't cost you more than a couple of hundred Baht (5-6 US$).
I wouldn't want to take a bus to your hotel as it'd take more than one route to get there.
BTW, grab yourself a map, you'll need one.
Oh, and forget about the bloodless coup, not a single shot was fired. No violence of any means. We take our kids to the military checkpoints to take pictures and it's not very often to get a close look at tanks!
Have fun..!!!

good luck with that.

dont know how the Military coup in Thailand will effect you...

"The military dispatched the army to take control the congress and all government buildings in Bangkok. They want to force our prime minister, who is now in U.N. meeting in New York, to step down from the position. They also took control the whole media channel including internet in Thailand, so all Thai people now can't see anything on Thai TV or Thai media web site (.co.th)."

The military coup happened 9/19/06, US time.
