There are 2 types of Meningitis, bacterial and viral. Bacterial meningitis is caused by you getting the bacteria directly from someone else. This is the type of meningitis that will kill you, but also luckily the type you can be vaccinated for.
Viral meningitis occurs when you catch a normal virus, such as measles, mumps or rubella, and the virus which is in your blood crosses the blood brain barrier (how oxygen etc gets to your brain) and into your brain, causing inflammation of the brains membranes - the meninges - aka meningitis. This type of meningitis is not fatal, but is very unpleasant and can leave you ill for a long time. The only way to prevent it is to make sure all your major immunisations are up to date.
So, it is possible to get meningitis more than once, if you haven't had vaccinations, you may get different bacterial strains of it, or you could have viruses which would give you meningitis more than once.

Yes you can still get meningitis again. It is a highly infectious disease and can kill if not treated. If you experience stiff neck/joint pain, headache, fever or any of those go to the doc/er. Especially if you experience a very stiff neck out of the ordinary. What kind of Meningitis did you have before? How was it treated? These are concerns your doc/er will have. Good Luck!

meningitis is a very general term. u need to indicate what kind of meningitis (i.e. what caused it.). u could get meningitis again, but from different causes. but for the average person...meningitis is a very rare event. there r some people who r at a higher risk, but who is at a higher risk depends on what kind of meningitis ur worried about.

I had Meningitis too, which nearly killed me when I was three years old. It is possible to get it again, although thankfully very rare.
The usual route to a recurrence of Meningitis in later life is through a totally collapsed immune system, when your body is unable to fight the onset of disease as a whole.

Not likely but meningitis has many causes and to have built up pimmunity to one bacterium may not give you immunity to another.
Please check your other question, "life after death" where I have posted some additional information.

yes it is possible, you may have some immunity to the initial bug that caused it, but you may still acquire meningitus through other bugs, this would depend upon various factors such as your immunity and general health state etc, i dont know what the reaccurance rates are, however - i think you need to enjoy life and try not to worry what may happen tomorrow, the nxt day or years to come, think positive........
