While some areas have zero tolerance. Why can't they all stick to the same thing to eliminate confusion as far as how fast you are really able to go.Through the forest preserve I can see-but on the freeway at 3 a.m. should there be zero tolerance?

The speed limit is the speed limit and the speed you should not exceed! It's at the mercy of the police officer that you're afforded anything over the limit! The zero tolerence falls to school zones, construction zones, etc that no excess speed can be tolerated for the safety of those in the area!

Legally, the rules are flawed. If you are not going fast enough, you can get a ticket for impeding traffic. Even if you are going the speed limit on the dot. You can still get a ticket for impeding traffic.

The 10 leeway is an un written rule. There isnt any leeway legally. Cops give us a little because the radar gun is not always accurate and precise.

Over in Germany, there arent speed limits, of course, I mind you, alot of people die as a result.

i live in north carolina, and the speed limit is always 65 on the highway. we have a 10-mph leeway too, its confusing, but the cops are lazy around here too.

Check your statutes for "Fuel Efficiency" violations - they may count anything up to 4mph over as a fuel efficiency violation & I would NEVER expect to get pulled over just for that.

I think your outcome is often just contingent on the office who pulls you over. Quotas, you know.
