Because the atheists don't acknowledge a soul. Therefore they would probably let all their friends get trashed and drive home. I mean they are just a clump of hair and a bag of bones that was randomly put together over billions ofyears, and has no more sanctity than the mosquito I just squashed. They have no eternity, no soul, just another animal so life really doesn't have the same value to them. With the survival of the fittest mentality , they'd probably be trying to killl each other off.

Well I'm an atheist and personally sometimes Christians just infuriate me, they seem so naive and wrong about everything. This is only when having religious discussion or when God comes into things, of course. But still, I would find it hard to be civil in a big party of hardcore Christians.

Because the reality is that both sides feel threatened by the other's beliefs.
On the one hand, believers feel threatened that if atheists are right, and there is no afterlife, then there is no justice or meaning to life, and everyone is simply doomed to eventual annihilation.
On the other hand, many atheists feel threatened that if Christians are right, and there is an afterlife, they are probably doomed to hell by some judgmental god.
So both sides feel compelled to prove that the other side is wrong.

Individual people may be able to accept each other. However, opposing views will never find a common ground.

I don't have a problem with them, we all make our own choices with how we believe. I do have a problem when they come on this link and get abusive to anyone who is a Christian.

It's hard to accept people who do not think and believe as you do. It's almost uncomfortable.
