thats funny because the majority of this religion and spirituality section is athiest trying to shove their beliefs down my throat
we arent forcing it on you if you dont want to read our opinions the solution is simple--dont read them
we are not forcing it otherwise we have no personal gain in it--just trying to help you
i have seen so many people go on missionary voyages leaving not only their possession but their beloved family--just because you dont see it doesnt mean ppl arent doing it
if EVERY christian went on missionary work we would fall apart
christians are an integral part of society
they are our doctors, our teachers, our family, our friends...we all have jobs some people go to the office--some go to africa and mexico and so forth to spreads gods word
we all have our own place in gods master plan
what a pity to go through life and not know christ
we ar not all out to get you dont be so mistaken-we care

So what do you call what you are doing here? I have never tried to shove anything down anyone's throat, never had a latte and don't have a Volvo or BMW or any other of those fancy cars, just something to help me get around to where I need to go, plain and simple. Jesus gave the command to spread the Gospel to all the world so as a Christian I am told to tell others of God and His love. If you don't want to hear it, all you need do it say so or turn around and leave or turn your tv off. I get no commission for telling anyone of God or His love. I do it because I know what the effects are and wnat to share the good that comes from it. If you don't want it, fine. I will go elsewhere. And by the way, I have no earthly possessions that anyone would want as all I have is old and about wore out and cost little to nothing or I would not be able to afford it. So not everyone is like the guy at the health spa. And thank God, not everyone is like you, trying to shove your ideas down the Christians throat and then claiming it is the other way around. Why don't you take your own advice and be quiet? Then there would not be so many that thought you needed God.

Atheists why don't you understand that the only reason that people dislike you and Atheists is that you are constantly trying to shove your views down other peoples throats. If you really think that the rest of the world is doomed to the everlasting fires of solar nova, fine!! Believe that, its your right. Just do it quietly and to yourself. And don't give me that lame excuse "I'm doing cold logics work." If you were really doing my cold logics work you would leave behind all your material possessions and walk from town to town preaching the word. But I have yet to see any Atheists leave their lattes or volvos behind. I don't hate Atheists, I have many atheist friends, but they keep their views to themselves. If you still do not understand let me give you a little analogy.
Remember the emplyee at the health spa that tries to get you to join his gym? He's annoying and overbearing and its only because he is getting commision out of it? Thats what Atheists sound like.

It doesn't matter to me whether people like or dislike me. Regardless, I do not try to shove my religion down people's throats. When appropriate, I suggest that people cultivate a relationship with Christ in order to come to understand the world and so that they may enter into God's grace and mercy...but suggesting isn't shoving.
Doing what God said to do by spreading the news that his Son brings salvation is not "a lame excuse." You're obviously at liberty to believe that, but you're believing a falsehood.
You may not have seen any Christians give up their possessions and travel from town to town, but I have done this for a time. I have very little, having given away a vast amount, and keeping only what I need to make a living and tend to basics so as not to drain public resources.
In any event, no one is forcing you to be here in the R&S section. If you prefer not to hear about salvation, move to another section--or abandon Y!A entirely. Or stay, and realize that you don't make the rules...and accept others' presence here with humility, or at least in the spirit of democracy.

I'm sorry you must have misunderstood. We aren't getting any commision out of leading you to Jesus. That is actually a benefit for you. We already have everything we need, if we were sitting home and not telling you about the best thing that ever happened to us, then we would be extremely selfish. Remember we are sharing the good news. If someone loves you enough to tell you, you should appreciate it. Heaven and hell are a lot different than a health club.
Oh and by the way, if we were walking the streets with our Bibles, no homes and no cars would you really want to be a part of that? God doesn't call us to that. Just to a life of more abundance, peace, love and assurance of eternal life.

I think you are getting real life confused with this forum. Everyone is very aggressive and intolerant in relation with their own religion. I'm never really preached at by Christians. Mormons are the ones that come knocking at my door, in truth, and they are only a cult. If you feel strongly about your religion and how it has changed you, I expect many would want to share their joy with others. That has been my experience with Christians, anyways, and I respect them for that. As far as you saying that they don't leave their lattes and Volvos, that's a very ignorant statement. Look at the nuns and priests... the missionaries and like that have sacrificed many worldly possessions for their faith. When's the last time you've made such a sacrifice for what you believe in?

Some Christians do that and it is annoying to some when they do and maybe others don't mind it so much. I guess it's like anything else when you start a conversation about something make sure the other person is receptive. Some Christians feel that it is their duty to spread the Word and others are just trying to compensate for their sinful lives. In any case, don't preach Christianity at work or it can be considered harassment and the person you're preaching to can file a complaint.

That may be so, but remember that the Christian is different than the health spa worker. The Christian exposes himself to dislike and offending people (and I assure you, we don't enjoy that experience any better than you would), and we do this precisely because we do believe that we have found the path to joy, and we don't wish for anybody else to miss it, no matter what it costs us to offer them the choice. I have known many Christians who gave up everything they had to go to Africa or Asia or Russia and preach the word. . . many of them have even been killed for it, and they still went even though they knew that was a real possibility. The guy from the health spa doesn't normally risk his life to get new members. Think about that, next time.

I have never heard any Christian try to convert anybody of another religion, much less "shove it down their throats". I don't know what kind of Christians you have met where the vast majority of them are "annoying and overbearing". If you are imputing this characteristic of a few zealots to all of us, you are not being very logical. I think you are going off the deep end with this one, and should re-think your facts and rationale.
