Confession seems that way because you are telling a priest all the terrible sins you've commited. Telling a priest these things is hard because you may not know them well and you may feel like they are judging you. Sometimes you even make your sins seem less terrible by not telling the really bad ones, but that makes it worse because God works through the priest, and he can hear you. He wants you to confess openly about your sins, so you can be truly cleansed. If you keep in mind the way you feel telling the priest all the terrible acts you've commited, maybe it will make you think more about doing those bad acts and potentially facing embarrassment.

As a devout Roman Catholic, I have been to confession hundreds of times in my life. Yes, it is sometimes a little embarrassing, but the priest is always very understanding. Remember, the priest acts as "personae Chiste" that is, in the person of Christ. Christ forgives us our sins because He paid the price for them during His passion and death on the cross. Furthermore, by His resurrection we are invited to everlasting life with Him. I know that other Christians do not believe in Confession, and I respect their opinions. But for me, confession is good for my soul and has helped me to grow in love for God. Go to confession often and reap the benefits of Christ's divine mercy.

Medical treatment can be embarrassing sometimes as well. But it is the means of removing disease from our physical bodies, so we seek it and are thankful for it. Confession is spiritual surgery. It removes spiritual disease from our souls and makes us spiritually healthy and renewed. We make use of the promise of Christ, who told His first priests, "whose sins you forgive, they are forgiven them". In that promise we can walk out of the confessional free and pure, having heard the words of Christ spoken through His representative, "I absolve you of your sins". WOW!

Because sin is embarrassing. It's meant to humble.

No, in my opinion, you don't need to go to confession. You can just confess your sins to Jesus, you do not need to tell anyone else. What can they do about it anyway?
1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness
