My new kitten is 8 weeks old and has peed everywhere but where she is supposed to. I put her in the tray and show her what she has to do regulary. She just isn't getting it, she prefers to eat the litter instead. When she does pee on the floor I do rub her nose in it and tap her and then put her in the tray. How long can I expect this to happen till she gets the idea?

It might be the type of kitty litter you have. You could try adding some dirt from outside to it. Cats love fresh dirt. Also when it pees use a small piece of cloth and wipe up the pee and then lay the cloth in the litter box. Use a mixture equal parts of water and white vinegar in a spray bottle to clean the areas where she pees. This will neutralize the urine odor

There are many things you can do. First try switching the litter because she obviously finds it more of a treat then a bathroom haha . If she is in a big location make sure that a litter box is always around . When she wakes up pick her up & set her directly into the litter box. Do this many times ; especialy as soon as you see her squatting to go on the floor & keep placing her inside until she goes in the litter box. Also ; if she poops on the floor place some of it into the litter box, she might get the idea.

Good luck :]

DO NOT rub her nose in it when she pees somewhere other than the litter box. It is unusual for a cat not to catch on to the litter box. Try putting some of it in the litter box and then showing her where you put it. You need to clean up any areas that she has peed on with bleach, not ammonia. She will keep peeing where she has peed before if you don't clean the area thoroughly. Make sure to use bleach and not ammonia because cat urine has a lot of ammonia in it and will just confuse your kitten.

Housetraining Success: Reward for Using the Litter Box
In order to reward your cat for eliminating in her litter box, you must be there at the time she eliminates. You need to have some idea of when your cat urinates and defecates. Most cats, especially kittens, will eliminate shortly after waking; after eating; and after exercise.
To help you predict when your cat will eliminate, feed her at regular times. If the input is on a regular schedule, the output will follow likewise. Before feeding your cat, spend ten to fifteen minutes playing with her. Then put down the food, allow her fifteen minutes to eat and then clear up any leftovers. After your cat has eaten, it is time for another gentle play session. Call her to her litter box from a variety of places around your house, especially areas where she has soiled. When your cat gets to the box, scratch the litter to get her interested. Similarly, throughout the day, whenever your cat has been asleep for over two hours, wake her up and call her to the litter box. Encourage your cat to hop into the litter box, praise her when she does so. Even if she does not eliminate, she is learning that the litter box is a great, CLEAN place to be. This is especially important for cats that are now avoiding the litter box because they assume it is always dirty or because they associate it with being punished. If your cat does eliminate, praise her in a gentle voice. Once she has finished, gently stroke her, give her a treat and take the time to tell her how pleased you are.

put the kitten on the litter box just after she wakes up also after eating and after a period of lots of moving around ,
the whole area around the litter box must be very clean at all the time , you can motivate the cat buy holding her paw and scratching the soil .if you see she pees on a particular place all the time move the litter box to this place.
by the time the kitten grows up the problem seems to be solved naturally

Well, it could be the texture of the litter. Experiment with a different kind. My cat likes the smaller gravel. If that doesn't work try this:
#1 Put the litter box in the one spot that she pees in the most.
if she starts to use it, start moving the litterbox in the direction of the corner/room that you want the littlerbox in but don't move it to far from her spot, just like 4in. By the time you get into the room/corner you want the litterbox to be in, she should be using it there.

If that doesn't work, you should take her to the vet. Good luck!

Hold the cat, and scrape her front paws into the litter tray. This gives them the natural feeling of "digging before going"!

Seems to have worked well for all the kittens I've ever had :-)

You need to put her in a contained room with the litter box every 5 min or so for about 3 hours per day. Thats what we did with my cat. Your cat MAY also have a bladder problem. Call your vet he could also help.

i had the same problem, the solution was bleach. cats love the smell of the stuff [normal bleach, not the scented stuff, DEFFINANTLY not the lemon sort} and will take a leak on it. clean the litter tray out with bleach, inside, outside and unerneath then keep putting the kitten on the tray as soon as you catch her doing it. this worked for me, stop rubbing its face in its own piss, it does no good and is cruel.
