Why would you need to ask this in German, since you would not be able to understand the answers anyway? Presumably they would also be in German?

Why ask the question when you know the answer. Germans have a love/hate relationship with Americans because we remind them of that little embarrassment circa 1940's when the mustaciod little guy led their nation across their borders and into all surrounding nations in an attempt to create One World with One Language - German a la Hitler. The Germans who are greatful for Americans, Britons and others for clobbering their country to rid it of the Little Guy are self assurred realists who give credit where credit is due. Those who hate us are loyalists who take everything personal including our dissing the Little Guy. It is guilt with these people. Their Uncle Otto or Grampa Carl or Aunt Gertrude were Nazis and they think loyalty to "family" comes before loyalty to human decency. W-r-o-n-g!
Or, perhaps the dissenters are offspring of the 72 children Hitler fathered to ensure his Littleness would live on. That's why they refer to Germany as the Fatherland.
Heil!

Hi Marie,
Some of the above is wrong; albeit unintentionally.
"Was denken Deutsche über Amerikaner?"
"Was halten die Deutschen/Deutsche von den Amerikanern".
Hope this helps

Ja, ich bin mit "smitten26" einverstanden! (Right, I'm in agreement with smitten26).
Please stop relying on translation sites which seem to transliterate the words quite incorrectly. It is better to rely on native German speakers, or least people who have studied some German.

"Was denken Deutsche ueber Amerikaner?"
And if you don't know German how will you make sense of the answers?
Don't think you'll get anything useful out of free translation sites.
Good luck anyway.

pretend you are hacking up a loogie, throw in a lot of consonants and sound real guttural. A German will enjoy your attempts at the language and then answer you in English.

I just saw your question at the german yahoo answers, but the real korrect form would be: "Wie denken die Deutschen über Amerikaner?"
or
"Was denkt ihr Deutschen über die Amerkaner?".
